No ventilation and stifling hot - not recommended
By Anita, 7/30/07
We were very disappointed with the Victoria Bug Zoo. While the exhibits and tour guides were MOST interesting, we were highly disappointed to see that it took place in only two rooms, and the heat was extreme. Poor ventilation, no air conditioner - on a cool day outside, the rooms were stifling. We have four children 10 and under. They had to leave numerous times to sit outside, as did other people, due to heat exhaustion. The staff were less than courteous when we mentioned it. Incoming people asked about it, and were told it was for the health of the bugs- unfortunately some were found dead on our tour. The kids did enjoy it. Though, parents should monitor the children (if you choose to go) for signs of heat exhaustion. Bring water with you. It was not very expensive, but not worth the discomfort.

big teeth
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/10
My husband and children loved the bug zoo, and the staff doing the tours were apparently excellent. The owner, however, was not so nice. I was berated for not going in ( I don't like bugs) and when I asked if I could take my husband's backpack to him so they could stay as long as they wanted, she went a little nuts, to say the least. No matter how great the attraction, customer service should never be overlooked. She refused to let me run it into him as I had not paid admission, refused to take my purse as collateral to ensure I would be back in 30 seconds, and claimed she could not leave the desk, after venturing over to the convenience store across the way. We will not return.

Too much money to see bugs
By Tiff, 6/16/07
My daughter loved the Bug Zoo. It is a small place, great bugs and information, the only thing we thought was that for $10 a person you should get a little more for your money.

A Must when you have kids!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/4/05
My kids thought this was the coolest place. Not only do they learn about all kinds of bugs and their habits, but they get to hold some in their hands AND buy suckers in the gift store that have bugs in them. What a great way to gross out their friends! Everytime we went into Victoria, or had friends visiting with kids, we had to visit the bug zoo.

Good fun!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/8/07
I loved the bug Zoo. The guides were very knowledgeable and personable. I got to hold all sorts of bugs. I didn't expect the zoo to be so small (only two rooms)however, this does not mean that they don't have lots of bugs. It was also very warm inside, I quess to keep the bugs happy. I think this is a great place to take kids and visitors to victoria. I highly recommend it, and I look forward to my next visit.

Owner needs customer service skills
By GM, 3/5/12
Owner is just after money at all cost no matter how ridiculous. Refused to go in and get me when my infant son who was in the lobby with my husband awoke and needed nursing. Instead told my husband to go in and she charged him full price to go in for 10 seconds to tell me the baby needed to be fed. (my cell phone had died) Refused to refund the money because he had set foot in the doors. Rude and insensitive. Also overheard her making a rude comment about another customer in the store area. She has no customer service skills. Very small inside and crowded. Overpriced.

Not just for kids
By Cheryl, 6/4/11
We loved everything about our experience at the Bug Zoo. Even the giftshop was great. This place is fun for adults too (we didn't have any kids with us and glad we didn't - why don't parents control their children better in public?). The assortment of "bugs" they have is extraordinary and the tour was very interesting. It was affordable and probably the best thing we did in Victoria! We encourage everyone to go to the Victoria Bug Zoo.

Very touchy feely, not scary !
By helen, 9/4/05
Me, my husband and my 2 boys loved this place. It was disappointing at first to find it all happens in just 2 rooms but there are 2 guides showing you around most of the inhabitants of the cages/ glass aquariums who are very enthusiastic & knowledgeable. I managed to hold a scorpion praying mantis, millipede and a tarantula. The guides even let the small kids hold the mantis and actively encouraged everyone to have a touch/hold. It actually took 45 minutes to hear their entertaining talks on the bugs & the time flew by very quickly. The guides encouraged everyone to hold the millipedes either under your nose or across your eyebrows - the kids loved it & adults too ! They didn't mind you taking photos either. the shop had some really cool gifts as well.

Don't miss if in Victoria
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/28/07
After doing several of the other standard things in the Victoria area and having most of them come up a bit short, we worried about this just being another tourist trappy type of place with little value. As it turns out it was our best experience in Victoria on our two day stay. While the exhibit is in a fairly small area bugs are small, too and they pack a lot of entertainment in those two rooms. The staff are very knowledgeable and very good with children. (Although we are 50+ yr old adults without children.) What we found was an unexpected jewel. Don't miss this one if you are in Victoria.
