Meinhardt's Fine Foods, Vancouver

There must have been a change in either the management or the Chef because the quality of the food in the Deli is just not as good as it used to be. Even though it was expensive l felt that I received good value for my money, but for the past three months that is no longer the case. The Indian Food has a lot less meat in its meat dishes and all the Indian dishes have become quite watery, even the rice is watery. For $8.99 you get a few pieces of pepper, 3 pieces of potatoes, on small chunk of chicken, some peas and watery rice. That is not good value. Also, some of the staff acts like they are doing me a favour by waiting on me. Not good, there are lots of other places to spend my money at.

Their foods are way over priced - $4/pound for zucchini - are you kidding me?! $5.99 for campari tomatoes on the vine, other stores you can get 2 boxes for $5. Have they lost their minds? They have a great location, but I'm not sure that they realize who their customers are. The people who can afford to shop at Meinhardt's, are the people who get in their Land Rovers and go to Whole Foods where the produce is better. The people who make Linda Meinhardt her money are the renters in south Granville who pop in there every day to buy the basics and end up picking up a little more. I know I won't be popping in there anymore, I can't afford her prices today, I could barely afford them before.

Don't listen to the other reviews, I don't know what they are talking about. This place has very friendly and proffesional employes. For example, their chefs and bakers had to have attended cullinary school. There are two stores: one on Arbutus and the other on Granville. Both are very clean and serve high quality food.

Always check the expiry date especially if you shop at Meinhardt's, chances are your food can be as old as three months! Disgusting and irresponsible. Looks aren't everything.

I don't know if the ownership changed recently, but this store no longer offers the high quality and signature products (like silk road bars) it used to and I am sorely disappointed. It seems to have become a slightly high end corner store, with a combination of junk food (you can buy in any Safeway) and a few items. The vegetables were in a sorry state (not worth the asking price). I walked in, intending to stock up on some Christmas treats and walked out without buying anything. The flower shop also pales in comparison to what it used to be. I refuse to shop at places that don't stay true to their original themes, promise, and character. If the owners can't maintain the standard they started with, they should probably get out of the business. Additionally, the web site isn't accessible because it has a Trojan virus. My firewall warned me and won't let me access it. I phoned the company to alert them, but the woman who answered laughed it off.

To the person who wrote- ‘bitter much?’- I've got a question for you- ‘defensive much?’ You don’t happen to be the person in charge of health and safety at Meinhardt foods, do you? Also, even if the poster you trashed IS in fact a former employee, to me, it adds even MORE credibility to his/her claims, because that person has inside knowledge. Also- usually employees are bitter because they get treated like crap, and quite frankly, if you treat the people who deal with your customers like crap... well... guess what... your customers are gonna feel it. So anyway- just for the record- I have never (and will never) work in retail. Yet- I AM pretty bitter with Meinhardt's! You know why? Cause it sucks to have to go back to the store after a long day, just to return a spoiled product! Especially when it happens so often that there is obviously some problem with their procedures.

I moved to South Granville about a month ago, and started shopping at this store. Tonight was the last time. For the third time (in JUST ONE MONTH!), I have come home to find that the food I bought was spoiled. Twice it was dairy products that were well within their ‘best before’ date, but had probably not been stored properly, and once is was bread that was 2 days past its ‘best before’ date when I bought it. I am just never shopping there again. There is something systematic going on here, and it is disturbing. Plus, you have to dig very deep to find fresh fruits and veggies, as the nearly spoiled ones are always piled on really high at the top of the bins. This also occurs on the shelves. Once I tried to buy a bag of prepared salad. All the ones in the front were browning, and the good ones had been pushed very far back, as if to hide them from the customers!

we live in the area and meinhardt's is our local food shop. the product selection is some of the best in the city as are the prices. it has the best deli and prepared foods any where. i can buy home made soup, indian foods everything is fresh and lovely. we have been shopping there for the past 12 years. the comments i have read must be made from competition or just nasty people. if i did not have a good experience why would i still be shopping there after living in the area for years. the staff are friendly and know there stuff. if you are new to the area go and shop for yourself its great and they also support our community seniors.

I just had to respond to this last post because it is obviously written by a former employee or maybe just someone who is really bitter about something. Maybe they are just mad at their father or something. The place really isn't that bad is it buddy? I mean it may be a little on the expensive side but making up outlandish claims like yours is a little over the top no? Maybe you should deal with your own issues instead of projecting them onto others. Just a thought. Regarding the store, the deli is one of the best in the city and I have to admit that most of the basic stuff ie. campbells soup is priced right. (at least it seems to be on par with the other place I shop at, Safeway).

Meinhardt's sells stale dated food ... buyer beware. They remove from expired boxes and put in their very own private labeled bags. They are overpriced and the service is over rated. All the good reviews on this site are written by their owners.
