Don't go for the bagels

I grew up in Montreal and have been a bagel fan all my life. Whenever I find a new source for bagels I must try it! So, it was with great anticipation that I tried a sesame bagel from Solly's. The price was steep but the sign claiming the bagels to be number one in Vancouver made me think perhaps they were worth the price.
Oh how wrong I was. The bagels, while fresh, were very uninspiring. Whether you are a fan of Montreal style or New York style bagels, these will be sure to disappoint you. No chew, no flavour, no character. I would put them on par with stale Dempsters bagels.
A good sesame bagel should have a hint of honey, a bit of chewiness and that wonderful roasted sesame flavour that comes from putting sesames anywhere near the oven. These elements, when combined in the right amounts make for a wonderful bagel.
Try Siegels. Even Safeway bagels would be a huge step up on these over-priced buns.
