Sun Sui Wah Seafood Restaurant
What was once a household name in Hong Kong is fast becoming a hot spot downtown. It is considered one of the best Cantonese restaurants in the province and has won numerous awards. Award-winning architect Bing Thom designed the two-storey, which adds a sophisticated and elegant atmosphere. Modern lighting fixtures, skylights and huge windows complete the decor. On the menu is traditional Southern Chinese cuisine. Try the Roasted Squab: it is delicious and believed to remove toxins from the body. Dim sum selections and a large variety of seafood delicacies are on the menu.
I am Chinese and most time cook at home because feel I can cook better than many restaurants. Visited Vancouver for the food even though live in San Francisco area. Order the King crab (5-1/2 kilos), squab and fried rice with diced salt fish for myself and wife. Besides having the crab cooked steamed in garlic sauce, the waiter recommended cooking part as fried in salt and pepper. Both were amazing delicious. I've had many salt and pepper dishes, and this was not at all greasy and had good flavor. The squab was also very tasty, better than many roast duck I've had. I had a bottle of their Gerwurtrimmer, not an outstanding wine, but had a nice lychee flavor. The waiter added a mango pudding at no charge. They were surprised that we ate it all with so much food, but we did not have lunch. Quite expensive, but still enjoyed!
They are well known for the King crab and fried squab. But the squab is over priced, you can go to a local store and just put in a deep fryer, since that is what they do. Very oily, should be served better. You are paying for the food and when it comes out the table all greasy and oil drippiing from it, not as appitizing.
Sun Sui Wah is the BEST chinese restaurant in BC, I think even in Canada. I am a chinese myself, and not only do I think the dishes are authentic, but also very innovative and delicious! Our family goes out to dinner 4 times a week to different restaurants, so I know what good food tastes like....If any one of you ever want to impress your friends or relatives from out of town by bringing them to a good chinese restaurant for seafood, you sure won't let them down by bringing them to Sun Sui Wah!
