Cat's Meow (The)

Description

Repeatedly the winner of the local Golden Plate Award for appetizers and soups, this young restaurant impresses Granville Island visitors and professionals with its contemporary grub and friendly atmosphere. It has high ceilings with colourful walls, bright canvases and a small stage, where local jazz and roots musicians play weekly. Guests enjoy lounging on the large outdoor patio overlooking a bridge and a lagoon. Try the Steak with Mushroom Sauce or the tender Steamed Salmon. Pastas, salads, soups, sandwiches; they are all delicious.

Low End Dive
By ,
The food is way below average, and priced to match the big chains, like earls & Milestones. The burger has no flavour, and they cooked the salmon beyond well done. The room is very dirty and clutter, and makes no sense. It looks like they decorated is blind folded, or have really horrible taste. Service is bad in Vancouver, but this place is amongst the worst. Twice, I had to get up and find my waitress to order another drink. One visit here was one too many.

Don't go for the food
By ,
This is probably a good place to drink. Don't go there expecting much of a meal. The food is adequate (they can do eggs benedict) to downright strange - the "huevos rancheros" come scrambled (!) and are incredibly bland. The most obvious reason to go, if this matters enough to you, is the attractive waitresses. The service itself is slow and, after dropping off your food rather perfunctorily, you'll be lucky to see them again.

Great place to eat
By ,
Best place to sit down for lunch on Granville Island. We had the Fish & Chips, which were great. Be sure to check out the restrooms, though. The flat-panel screens playing automobile commercials were really slick.

Great Casual Place for l/brunch
By ,
I was just here Sunday afternoon June 2006, and was pleasantly surprised. It is a children=friendly place with thin crust pizzas which the kids and parents loved. My hubby had the salmon which was perfectly cooked with some nice sauted veggies and a pasta in a cream sauce. I had a delicious clam chowder and crab cakes( which to tell the truth were good but not great- I make better ones) but boy did my daughter love them. It has a decent beer list and an ok not great wine list. I liked this place, thought the service was great, and the price surprisingly reasonable. $50 for all 4 of us= food and drinks. I will definitely come here again as its next to the playground, the pond, the community centre, and Kid's Market.

My New Vancouver Hot Spot!
By ,
One of the best casual restaurants I have been to. We ate on the patio, and then moved inside to a lounge after dinner. I had an Ahi Tuna appetizer and stuffed chicken dinner and my girlfriend had a Tomato Bococinni Salad with Tiger Prawns. We finished with a Chocolate Pate dessert. The food was amazing. Way more than we expected from a casual fun restaurant. The servers looked like models, but the refreshing change was that these girls actually had a great attitude. Our server not only gave us great service, but recommended other places in Vancouver to carry on our night. We were there on a Thursday and all the drinks were $2.99. When we finally left (way later than we planned) we were surprised that the patio was still packed at 11p.m. Next time we are in town, we are going to go back and try some of their martinis!

Great food!
I went for brunch on a Sunday morning. It was too busy at all. The portions were large, the food was reasonably priced, and the waitress was beautiful. What more could you want? The place has a great ambience to it as well.

LOVE THE MEOW!
By ,
I love this place. Only real Loungee place on Granville Island. Almost feels like its about to break out into a nightclub, with all the good music and drinks, but keeps its cool as a lounge. Will always have a good time at the MEOW!!!!!

Meow...Hissssss...!!!
By ,
The stuffed chicken I had here in October (2004) was undercooked (pink in the middle), the green beans were in a greasy saute, the dinnerware smelled as though it wasn't really cleaned/washed thoroughly. I ended up getting sick later in the evening.
Other than the cute name of the restaurant I don't have much else to recommend about it, which is a shame because loving cats, I was hoping this would become a regular place to go!
