Cipriano's Ristorante & Pizzeria
The traditional recipes used in creating Cipriano's pizzas date back to 1953, when the owner's father, Guiseppe Cipriano, introduced the large, flat and round crust to Vancouver. This hidden, understated gem captures the romantic look and feel of an old country ristorante: stucco walls, chequered tablecloths and hanging Tiffany lamps. A satiating meal is composed of the Caesar alla Christina salad, Francesco's Fredo Pasta and an Italian red or white from the wine list. Other non-pasta entrees include the Veal Calabrese, Chicken Roma and Ribs Mediterranean. Don't be deceived by the restaurant's shabby look.
I have been to this restaurant a few times over the last couple years and the food is really good, but i have never had such consistently bad service.
The waiter is very arrogant and rude and I will not be going back.
There are so many things displeasing and disappointing things about Cipriano but I won't bore you with all of them. Suffice to say my friend and I went for a girls night, thinking to try a new local restaurant. Cipriano's food was atrocious and the service was lax! The menu selection was uninspiring and, full of very typical Italian fare that was passé, such as: spaghetti Bolognese, veal and chicken parmigana. This may have been popular in the 80's but this a new century, get with it! The food was expensive and of vast quantity, perhaps a decoy for its questionable quality. My "house" tomato & cheese salad drenched in vinegar, felt gritty, making me suddenly thankful for the dark decor so I could not see if it was fresh and clean or what those crunchy unidentifiable bits were. The bruschetta was a hunk of bread with a slice of tomato with oil and garlic sprinkled over it. My friend's spinach caneloni was far too salty, and when she gave me a piece the cheese smelled suspiciously sour. My Leonardo pasta, a seafood dish, was overly spiced and the seafood looked like it was from a can. Normally enthusiastic diners (and frugal), we barely touched our meals and ended up giving the doggy bags to a street person. The waiter did not refill our water or provide Parmesan cheese. The service was non-existent and inattentive; a sous chef actually brought our meals and cleared our tables. The icing on this gastronomic farce was the restaurant takes cash and Visa card only. We are by no means fine dining connoisseurs (we think Harvey's at the Home Depot serves a mean burger) or close-minded diners but this experience left my normally quiet and easy-going friend very displeased. When she expressed her disappointment to our server, who instead of handling the situation with diplomacy responded with arrogance to her complaint. We left no tip and vowed never to go to Ciprano's again.
I have been to Cipriano's several times, over several years, and it is consistently the best Italian cuisine in the city, bar none. The garlic bread is part of the reason I keep returning. The wine selection is excellent, the ambience perfect. I have never had anything but a great experience. It is my favorite "special" place for a date night with my husband.
I loved every part of this experience. It looks Italian, smells Italian and tastes Italian. Do not pass up an opportunity to try this. The portions were enormous. The biggest doggy bag I have ever seen.
Went there with a large party (reservations made). They said this was a "serious" restaurant and made us feel like unwelcome guests. Like we were below them or second class citizens. I left early and made arrangements for others in my party to pay on my behalf. Guest what !!! They had the nerve to follow me outside to ask if I left money on the table. The rest of the party was still there. At the end of the day, we have 15 very unsatisfied patrons who will share their horrific experience at Cipriano's with everyone they possibly can. Warning - Enter at your own risk. The good food does not compensate for the major attitude and horrible service.
I still can't get over how wonderful the food and service was. They were busy all evening. I'm glad we had reservations for our party. You could see it was difficult for them to turn people away as they were fully booked and tables would only be available around 8:00pm if you were lucky.
Be prepared to take enough food home to start all over the next day. I have never tasted bruschetta & garlic toast like what they have. Just typing this is making my mouth water.
I would recommend this restaurant to everyone and suggest that they make reservations to guarantee a seating.
Whenever family & friends come from out of town I will definately take them to Cipriano's!!!!
Frank, Al and Christine you are incredible.
we have been there a few times over the last couple of years and they are always so rude. even on the phone when you order take out they are rude. once i phoned and asked what kind of pizza they had and the guy said to me, "ah it's a pizza joint, what kind of pizza do you think!"
Like you idiot!
That is the last time. I don't care if the food is good, it is certainly not that good.
They do not deserve peoples money. That is a Fact!!!!!
I ate chicken here. It was overcooked and slathered in simple barbecue sauce. Not "roasted", not grilled--heated. And the food is exorbitantly overpriced.
My salad was basic chopped lettuce, tomato with sotre-bought dressing.
Frankly the experience was rather insulting. Clearly they don't respect their patrons, or their patrons aren't all that smart.
Don't eat here.
This was the worst meal I have EVER had. The lasagna was disguisting - covered in yellow cheese and the noodles werent even cooked. The veal dish - well we werent sure it was a solid piece of veal. We thought it was reconsistuted. The italian salad was a joke with the overpowering flavour of kraft italian bottled dressing. AND THE PRICES!!! In order to have your own meal you are paying the same prices as the fine dining (And might I add GOOD or EDIBLE food) prices. This place is AWFUL and the food DISGUISTING.
