Try Sophies...if you like your food bland and the service blander!

Since when did trendiness equate to a culinary delight?
Sunday morning there was a 20 minute lineup for this place - I figured therefore it must be good, right?! - WRONG!!
My girlfriend and I had ordered breakfast. The bacon was cold, the eggs were OK (how can you screw up eggs) and the pancakes were VERY bland to say the least. Although this isnt one of the worst restaurants I've ever set foot in, it was one of the most overpriced considering the poor value in service and food.
We eat out often and this WAS NOT one of our most pleasurable dining experiences. The service left much to be desired. While obviously this isnt a 5, 4 or in my books even a 2 star diner its not asking too much to expect the Waitress/Waiter to come and ask how the meal was or at least appear to be more accomodating.-Perhaps they stopped asking as they of all people know the food is as tantilizing as waffers of cardboard wrapped around a non-flavored toffu patty.
I do not mind whatsoever paying good money for a nice meal but lets just say I felt ripped off/cheated whatever you want to call it walking out of this 'restaurant' with $35 less in my pocket.
The 'ambience' was nothing special. The walls resembled the vast plains of Oklaholma after Tornado Season - Junk strewn everywhere but hey its kitsilano, that's what they call art, isnt it?!? The entire place wreaked of desperation and all things contrived.
Complete waste of money, you could make a far more substantive/tastier meal at home. I am not sure how places like Sophies and Bread Garden stay in business in Vancouver - Perhaps Vancouverites on the whole have dead tastes buds. Pass on this one, you wont miss a thing!
