Phnom Penh Restaurant
Located in the oldest part of downtown, this popular spot offers a blend of Cambodian and Vietnamese cuisine. That blend has earned this restaurant top honour with local critics and even the esteemed chef Julia Child. Some recommended dishes include Carpaccio-Thin Beef with Fish Sauce and Hot-and-Sour Soup. The dessert menu is also a standout. Images of ancient Cambodian life fill the walls.
I have heared people talking about how goods the foods in this restaurant recently. I want to find out again to see if there is any different since the last time I had my dinner here ( 4 years ago)but I am totally dissapoint with this restaurant this time eventhough its business is running very good everyday.
The last time I have my dinner here was four years ago. Yesterday, I came with my friends on their invitation and we have ordered Chicken wings, soups and some desserts. It seems to me the dessert which called "Xoi Xiem" were old and there have to much MSG in the foods. I was not happy and concern about consumpt to much MSG and eating at this restaurant this time. The chicken wing was so oily and I do not think it is good for people who concerns about eating to much fat these days. This is my personal comment only as a customer and it does not have any other unfriendly reason and expression toward this place. I was surprice to see this restaurant are packed with many customers, most of them are Asians. The service is fast and good at this restaurant.
The food at Phnom Penh is decent, but certainly not worth the terrible service and dentist's waiting room atmosphere that you have to deal with it to get your food. Uniformly, the waitstaff and owners are terrible at taking orders, delivering food in a timely manner, even taking money. If you want to go for a quick lunch, forget about it, it won't happen.
I've been there twice, to give them a chance, but I definitely won't be returning after this second time.
I agree with the other reviewer, the butter beef is really to die for. Their signature chicken wings are one of my favs too. The food is great but the service is slow. It's not surprising that it's so busy all the time, I always have to wait for a table when I go there.
