Morrissey Irish Bar & Restaurant
Situated amid the downtown action of Granville Street, this pub is convenient and well stocked with Irish ales and spirits. Dark wood trim and wooden tables give it a warm, welcoming feel. Sit in the comfortable couches placed around the fireplace. Good food and generous portions are trademarks here. The menu boasts typical pub fare such as Shepherd's Pie, Fish and Chips and Chicken Wings. Try the Calamari Rings as an appetizer. It has a wide assortment of beers on tap, including traditional Irish brews like Kilkenny and Guinness.
The Morrissey is my favourite bar in town. Good atmosphere and great music - especially on Saturday nights. Have only eaten there a few times but the food is good - upscale pub munchies.
The only drawback is the service. Ordering from the bar is fine, but I've gotten some bad attitude from the servers many times. I understand what it's like to work in a bar and to have to put up with drunk meatheads, but my girlfriends and I are pretty decent people in the pub, even after many pints. There is nothing worse than going to your favourite place, listening to the best music playing in town, spending $100 and having the server treat you and your mates like garbage. I don't exactly expect 5 star service, but a little politeness would be pleasant.
I guess I like the abuse as I keep going back. It's still the best place in town, in my opinion. Cool crowd and good music are the winning draws here.
I do like this pseudo Irish pub but it was cooler even just a year ago before it started to turn in 'the cactus club'! And the servers apparently are there to try and look good rather than give really good service. Our last vist was ruined by our snobby server. She was very un-friendly from the moment she walked over and I have to say we were a relatively small group of us (men and women)about 8 people and no one liked her attitude! And we are all nice people! Anyway the food was pretty good, decent price and overall good feel as long as maybe you walk to the bar for your drinks and not ask the short skirt with the blonde hair!
