This long-standing favourite is Vancouver's top steakhouse. The selection of beef at this downtown establishment is impressive, from the filet mignon (11 ounces) to the Cayenne Rubbed Rib Steak. The menu is huge, and the decor is West Coast steakhouse all the way: large, comfortable leather chairs, dark wood everywhere, and white linen on every table. Reservations are highly recommended.
I took my boyfriend to Hy's for his birthday. He'd been there once before but I didn't know what to expect. As per the title of this review, our experience was amazing! The service was very attentive but not overly so and the food (oyster's rockefeller and cheese bread to start and then ceasar salad, and porterhouse steak for my boyfriend and filet mignon neptune for myself) was delicious. Yes the place is a little pricey but as for any high-end restaurant, that is to be expected.
Went last night for dinner. After growing up with a developed taste for good food, and being raised in Vancouver, Hy's was a big dissapoingment. Just can't find really good food served with excellent quality anymore.
Had 7 0z. filet, it was only about 1/2 inch thick. Since when did filet get so thin, if not butterflied? Ordered Bernaise, it had peppercorns. Asked about it, they replaced it with Hollandaise, with tarragon added. The famous ceaser was overpowered with anchovy, but the lettuce was wet. The noise level was difficult for the older set, if you wore a hearing aid.
Too bad, another waist, dinner for 4 was 360$ and truly a let down. Nothing special anymore. If only the food could be as good as it used to be in Vancouver, 35 to 50 years ago. Obviously, the people of today don't know good food or they settle for less than good as good.
