Effortless Mountaintop Views Of Jasper
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/12/05
The easy way to get up Whistlers. The tramway whisks you up Whistlers for panoramic views of Jasper town and National Park. To reach the summit of Whistlers it is necessary to climb another 1.1km along a well defined path, which is deceptively steep in places and requires a reasonable level of fitness.
At 2470m, Whistlers provides jaw dropping views in all directions, south along the Icefields Parkway, north to Jasper town and the mountains behind, west to Mount Robson and east towards the skyline trail.
The alternative to taking the tramway up Whistlers is a 7.9km (5 mile) hike with a 1250m elevation gain. The trail starts just below the Youth Hostel and is signposted to take approx 4 hours one way. The trail only passes under the tramway once at about the halfway stage, followinf its own course for the majority.
