First off I would like to say painting the pottery was a very fun relaxing experience. My boyfriend and I spent 4 hours on a Saturday with a group of friends painting the pottery we selected. Once you are done painting you submit it and in a weeks time you can pick it up after they bake it in the kiln. When it was time to pick them up, my boyfriend sat in the car while I ran in to pick up our pottery. They were packed in a small box so I took it out to the car and we hit the road. As I opened the box up I was really pleased with how mine turned out. But as we unwrapped my boyfriends mug he painted for his mother we were both extremely disappointed. The paint had all melted off and was dripping down the sides. He spent a lot of time on that, 4 hours to be exact and it was nothing like he submit it. Not to mention it wasn’t cheap, for the one mug it was about $35. I called right away and were told that sometimes the kiln gets too hot and melts the paint off. She explained she could either give us a new mug to paint or a store credit to paint something else. We didn’t want to spend another 4 hours on the weekend re painting something that should have been done right the first time, it was a huge disappointment. And frankly I don’t have the time and patience to paint something, now knowing the outcome could be a complete disaster. The lady continued to tell us that only the manager could do a complete refund. I left my name and number for her to get back to me Monday.. I didn’t receive a call all day so I called and was told she was extremely busy but got the message. I called Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and was told the same thing. I thought a 5 min phone call to keep your customers happy would be pretty painless but I guess not. Unfortunately this is the worst business management I have ever come across and don’t recommend anyone to go there. I gave Crankpots a week to get back to me and every opportunity before writing a review but I’m still waiting to hear from the store and am very unhappy..
They chipped my mug and offered no apology. I received no phone call when it happened, so I arrived a week later disappointed and empty handed. It is understandable things will break sometimes, however have the decency to notify the person whose project was broken. :(
I recently went to Crankpots - and have to say they have some of the most useless people I have ever dealt with. I consider myself a pretty patient person, and I have never felt so frustrated after dealing with them. Not to mention they ended up dropping my vos and smashing it to pieces, but from A-Z it was a hassel and caused me and my guests more annoyance than fun at all. Trust me it is not worth the time, money, and effort.... I would suggest.... well ANY other pottery place in Edmonton to put it lightly!
We had started off a stagette here. They let you bring food and alcohol and what a great experience!
The staff was helpful but not intrusive. We had younger ladies as well as mothers of bride and groom. It was fun for everyone! They gave us lots of time and lots of options for the artistically - challenged. Definitley will go back!
I absolutely loved this place, what a fun and realxing time we had. We had a team bonding day with work and this was one of our adventures. After a lunch of pasta we strolled up Whyte Ave a few blocks and spent a joyful couple of hours painting mugs and laughing.Thankyou Crankpots for a time, i will be back with my family
took my kids to crankpots for some spring break fun , and fun is exactly what they had fun fun fun,all 4 of them. Never thought my 2 boys would enjoy a craft as much. I had been to the Clay Cafe in Halifax before, so Crankpots was not the first pottery painting place I've been to. The existing reviews here generally summarize the overall experience, which I agree is relaxing and enjoyable.
However, I had a problem with the final product at Crankpots. I painted a plate that was mostly white, and when I was presented with the glazed version, there were several black marks, resembling finger prints/smears. I was told quite frankly that these must have been put there by me, and that perhaps the glazing process made them more visible. Obviously, if there were any such marks on the plate, I would not have submitted it in the first place. I think my plate was mishandled, although it's simply my word against theirs, and in the end there was nothing much I could do about it (no refund was offered).
I would encourage anyone who hasn't done so to try painting at Crankpots or a similar place, but I would warn you to make sure your item is devoid of any blemishes when you hand it over to the staff to cook.

We were shopping along Whyte Ave looking for a special gift for an important family member & came across Crankpots Ceramic Studio. They have a varied selection of items to design & paint from which we choose a serving plate. As it was a gift for Grandma's 75th Birthday we hand painted all of her Grandchildren's names & birthdates on it. We received the plate back inside a week & were extremely happy with it. Grandma cried tears of joy when it was given to her and said it was the best present ever. Crankpots is the perfect place to purchase a gift that will "WOW" your family or friends !!
