Deadwood Social Club, Deadwood

I see that the reviews for the social club are dated. I travel extensively and find myself in Deadwood often. In the Deadwood/Lead area this is the best restaurant I have found and has remained so for the past few years. Top reasons for going are the wine selection and cheese cake. The beef selections are good but don't expect top notch aged beef. They have some US "Kobe" from Idaho which is tasty but not aged fully and cuts are too thin. Wild selection available includes duck, elk, bison, all of which are well prepared. Elk portions are scant. Pastas have been prepared well and are tasty. Expect crowds in the summer during prime tourist season otherwise seating has not been a problem. Wait staff are friendly and accommodating although knowledge of wines and their listings varies somewhat among them

There are many choices on the menu, and every item is fabulous. Furthermore, they change their menu twice a year. The wait staff is beyond professional and is very knowledgeable in regards to their very extensive wine list. In fact, they were the only restaurant in South Dakota, recognized by Wine Spectator Magazine for having the most extensive wine list. To make things clear they are a northern Italian steak house. That is, in northern Italy they don't use red based sauces, they only use cream based sauces. They have beer and wine dinner parties every month in the winter. These parties are an amazing experience as they pair wine/beer with 5 different courses. Linda has been making the Cheesecake for 16 years and they have 17 varieties. Make reservations for the best possible seating.

Service was great. Food was excellent. Prices were around $15 and up a person. But you have to pay that to get great food. We WILL be eating there the next time we are in town. We had a hard time locating the restaurant. It is above Saloon 10. A must visit!

During a girl's weekend with my friend, we toured the historical downtown area & the DSC was recommended to us by a local~ we figured we give it a try. It was lovely. Small, cozy, & our waiter was absolutely great. He suggested a great wine & guided us on our picks for the main entree. The wine, the waiter, the food, the CHEESECAKE (I can't even describe the cheesecake...THE BEST) were all wonderful. I'd recommend it. In fact, I already have!
