high level lost lustre...

The High-Level Diner had the reputation for years of being a break-fast institution, so when company was to be fed....company with a discerning palate and a desire for ambience was ready for breakfast, the High-level was our destination.
Arrival on a Sunday, post-church crowd, afforded us a 22 minute wait. The aromas coming out the kitchen promised us satifaction for our time. My companion had the breakfast burrito, pork sausages, sadly, were quite unremarkable and dessicated. My Florentine Benedict was lacking adequate hollandaise sauce (and don't we all know that bennies are mere vehicles for h-sauce?). The eggs although poached to my liking (hard), seemed vulcanized around the edges...
All in all, the meal was fair, but certainly not what I remember enjoying and expecting from this once unique and rewarding spot. Our city is lesser with the loss of this once sure and charming breakfast nook.
