Voted as the top outdoor site in the country, Calgary Zoo features more than 1100 animals from around the world and an ever-growing portfolio of innovative exhibitions, which allows guests to get up close and personal with grizzly bears, moose and wolves. Life-sized dinosaur models lurk in the badlands of the Prehistoric Park, and the more genteel setting of the Botanical Park includes a butterfly garden. See website for event calendar, educational programs, online ticketing and more.
my self and my husband went (no kids) and we are in our 40s. we were told it was great but it was better than that. set in lovely landscape so you never knew what was around the corner. after 3 hrs we were worn out but still came away not having seen everything.
food in the restaurant was also excellant , fantastic choice ( we had our 1st chili cheese hot dog) and cheap
We enjoyed this zoo so much. The grounds are beautiful and the habitats are very realistic. All staff were extremely informative, friendly and very professional.
We loved Calgary and this zoo is a must.
The Calgary zoo is an excellent place to go when visiting the great city of Calgary. The zoo offers a large selection of animals to see including hippos, Siberian tigers, giraffes and gorillas.
The Calgary zoo also has a beautiful botanical garden. The garden includes plants from the desert, the rain forest as well as plants able to grow outside in Calgary's climate.
The prehistoric park at the Calgary zoo is also something worth checking out but only if you have children. The prehistoric park is made up of dinosaur statues and big rocks for kids to climb on. The Calgary zoo is definitely worth seeing when you visit Calgary.
The African section was amazing! Lots to see, impressed with cleanliness and staff very friendly and knowlegable. This is an experience for all ages! Early summer is when I think it is for the best viewing, however fall time could be very pretty around there....
I only go to Calgary every two or three years, but a visit is never complete without going to the Zoo. There is amazing atmosphere, the animal habitats are awesome and high tech, and the facility is well maintained. The variety of animals and habitats is outstanding - I can't wait to stop in again!
Really enjoyed visiting the Calgary zoo recently. Wanted to see the Canadian native animals mainly and the only disappointment was that the moose were off-site due to flood damage to their enclosure.
We easily spent the whole day, had a pleasant lunch using the restaurant there and even, unexpectedly, enjoyed a visit to the prehistoric park. Transport to the zoo was excellent on the c-train also.
We were visiting Canada from Australia and the Calgary zoo was the only zoo we went to, and we would recomend it to tourists and family groups.
This place covers every country and basically every animal. You get to see exotic animals, along with animals you've probably never heard of, and the standard animals you've always heard of but never seen.
Everything is sectioned off by country, which is interesting because if you're not a reading person you don't have to read the blurbs to know where they come from; you just have to know what building youre in.
They also have exotic species of plants, an entire building for night animals and an island entirely for prehistoric animals, dinosaurs.
I found this zoo very fulfilling and I intend on going back next time I'm in Calgary. From gorillas to giraffs, to lions and tigers, to zebra and a million kinds of monkeys and hippopotamus and more all keep me busy and entertained of at least five hours of enjoyment.
This place is huge, and you need to allot adequate time to explore the whole zoo, so plan to spend the day.
There is a great playground for kids to run and climb, and repeat trips are probably needed to experience the entire facility.
