Rubaiyat, Calgary

Possibly the best jewelry shop in Calgary. I always find something in my price range and it always gets raves at work.

The Rubaiyat is one of the rare finds in a city and something I always try to search out when I visit a new city. It's independently owned and always has been. It's family run and is a great contributor to the arts community in Calgary and Canada. The store has blown glass artists throughout North America and the same goes for the unique jewellery. Personally, I feel in love with the japanese teapots, teak outdoor furniture, and John Blair earrings. It was a great treat to have helpful and kind staff help me understand the unique items that they sell.

The store is filled with beautiful, handmade objects. There are exquisite boxes made of beautiful wood, superb glass work, creative jewelry. I like the fact that a lot of the objects are made by local craftsmen/women. The selection of garden items is wonderful. AND everyone who works there is friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. My husband go there often to browse; whether we buy or not (and we don't always), we are always treated in the same friendly way. We are never pushed into buying and whenever we have a question, it is always answered. We love the store.

Particularly liked the broad selection of art glass. Beautiful vases and sculptural pieces, and a large number of beautiful small ones like paper weights. Be sure to peruse their drawers of these. I was impressed by the good value on many of the one-of-a-kind pieces -- wish I could have bought more to bring home. They were very nice to me, so it's regrettable to see that one bad review. Give it a chance -- it's a terrific place, and the area has interesting looking little cafes, too, so a junket over to Rubaiyat would really be fun.

After hearing about this wonderful store from friends over time my Wife & I decided to visit the fall of 2004. WOW! What a beautiful & charming store. We have looked forward to visiting ever since, bring family & out of town friends with us. The staff is excellent, being knowledgeable, friendly and always helpful. If you love Christmas you must visit during the season. The ornaments are outstanding and best of all the great collection of Department 56 village pieces are a must. Bring your children or grandchildren to see the remarkable displays that Allan & Don put together. Not only that but the two of them really know their stuff. Visit we say. You'll love it.
