i like that is close to downtown, large bouldering area
i dont like the place because its not clean, some staff are not happy with what their doing there, bad parking lot, dirty locker ,dirty toilet, cardio bike doesnt work..for the money they ask everything should be in order, also they have their own cllimbing grades , its a bit different from V system..compared to vancouver area gyms this place is years behind
Whenever I do the figure eight knot and tie myself in, I talk myself through it. When I did this, the manager accused me of teaching the person I was with and said he was going to ask us to leave. I explained as did my friend that I was not teaching her anything, but he kept insisting I was. After 4 times of explaining the exact same thing, that I was not violating their rules, we were finally able to climb again. However, he stayed within a few feet of us and listening distance of us the rest of the time. He made us feel extremely ncomfortable and unwelcome so we left early. His behaviour implied we were lying to him. This is not the first time the manager of Stronghold has displayed poor customer relations skills. We will not go back until he is gone!
I had never been inside a climbing facility before and was very impressed by my first visit to the Stronghold Climbing Centre. The waiting area was very appealing and clean and the young gentleman who waited on me at the counter was very helpful, considerate and courteous. It is amazing that a centre such as the Stronghold Climbing Centre can be so accommodating, the gym was holding classes for children as it was the summer and the young man in charge was so patient and right in their with the kids.. I would reccommend this climbing centre. I will be back again this summer (as I live in Nova Scotia) for more instruction and fun.
It might be a good climbing facility, but it is a terrible place to have a birthday party. We were told to get there early for our 1:00 party so that the kids could get harnessed. They were very unorganized, they seemed to not even know we were coming, even though we booked it 2 months in advance. They didn't start harnessing kids until 1:05, so kids didn't start climbing until 1:20. We did not have a designated area so we had to wait for other climbers. In all the kids got a total of 30 minutes climbing even though I paid for the kids to climb for 1 hour. They made sure we did not go past our 2:00 end time even though we got such a late start. We found out that there was a boulder room in the basement and were told we could use it after our cake and presents. When we went to use it we were told our time was up and the kids got kicked out.
When I talked to the front desk person (the person who appeared to be in charge) about my concerns, he acted like he didn't even hear me. Gave me an Oh well look and basically ignored me, he didn't even apologize. The birthday party area is a dungeon in the basement, very unclean, and dark. Parking is very limited, mostly pay on the street.
Overall very poor value, would not recommend this facility and would never go back. There are other great climbing facilities in the city.
