Atlas Specialty Supermarket

Description

This friendly and sunny supermarket specializes in Middle Eastern foodstuffs with a focus on items from Iran. The shelves are well stocked with Persian spices, tea, condiments, canned goods, oils and delightful cooking ingredients like orange blossom water. It also serves up hot meals such as aromatic Persian-style stews with fluffy rice or kebabs of chicken or beef. Be sure to try their Arabic coffee; it is easily the best around. This is a perfect place for homesick Iranians or those wanting to try some out-of-the-ordinary Persian cuisine.

Love it!
By ,
Atlas' new location is so central and easy for us to get to from work. Great spot for business lunch and perfect for a family dinner. We go either with our small children and friends or with my very large Iranian family! Pari is wonderful and always welcomes us with a hug and kiss. Her boys Sat and Amir are like brothers to us and we know when Amir is cooking because the kebabs are incredibly juicy. Love the salmon (mahi) kebab...my new favorite. The gormeh szabzi and feh-san-joon (stews) are to die for as well as the kashko bademjan (eggplant dip). We always roll out and should frequent this restaurant more often than twice a month...Sundays at Atlas!

Would never go here again
By ,
I noticed a reviewer that just recently went to this restaurant and had the same bad experience as ourselves. We were visiting from out of town and stopped in here with some friends. The service was bad, the waitress could not even answer our questions. My chicken wrap was burnt and I when I complained about it, I was basically told it was my own problem. We felt pressured to eat and leave since it was close to their closing time even though it was only 9pm! I would recommend to not try this establishment, if restaurants do not know how to give professional service, then they should not be in the business of service.

Never again will I go to ATLAS restaurant in calgary
By ,
One night, my friend and I came at 8:15pm to have dinner at ATLAS, there was another group ahead of us and we where standing in line for 10minutes and after waiting in line a young gentleman came and without even any apology, told us that the restaurant is closed. If they are closing this early, then they should have the decency to let us know immediately that they are closing early and not let us stand there for 10 minutes.

Wow! Just wow...
By ,
Went in not ever trying this type of food and did not know what to order. The owner himself asked us to trust him and to let him select a tasting menu, and Wow!!! Were we not disappointed! Every thing was amazing. The meats were so tender and flavourful. The stews were to die for, and everything else just got better... I must say that the staff and owners make you feel like guests in their own home and not just a customer. This is now our favourite restauant...

It's good everytime you go
By ,
Consistency is something most of the halal food restaurants lack in Calgary. Altas is good everytime I visited, and I visit them 3 - 4 times a year.

Our fav restaurant
By ,
We have been to this restaurant in its old AND new locations. I thikn the food was better in the old one (may have to do with distance of table from stovetop) but its still decent in the new place. The staff has always been polite. We love it there. We always get the chef's combo.

NEW LOCATION AND GREAT FOOD
By ,
Since their move from 16th Ave to 100, 1000 9th Ave SW the ambiance has been the only thing that changed. Family owned and operated, this "hidden secret" will soon be found by the downtown crowd because of food quality and attention to detail. The food is still the best in the Persian food in the city. Bar-b-que beef and chicken is delicious as are the stews and soup. If you like Persian food you will love Atlas!
