Oriental Phoenix Restaurant, Calgary

Food is good but the service is going to bankrupt them!! The last two times I have been there, I have left "Zero" as a tip!! That's pretty strong measures for me but if they don't care about me, then I don't care about them. We had a party of 10, three bottles of wine (which we had to beg for) and ended up visiting, after the meal, with every single dirty plate still on the table...appetizers included. In the end we left 'cause he was tucked around the corner hiding rather than serving us. I won't go back!

The food is not authentic Vietnamese. It's been westernized. The price is much higher compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. I prefer "Mekong" and Noodle World on 17 Ave. S.E and Minh Chau Restaurant on 9 Ave. S.E. Their food are more authentic with competive price.

Terrible Experience. Ordered Rice with Basil Chicken. Basil chicken should not be salty at all but I tried explained to server that is super salty, I ended up finished all of rice and drunk pot of jasmine tea! so Server offer me to take out food.. but how can i take home that is going to be trash anyway. so I figure cook is smoker and probably didn't care much tone salt amount down, so there is scary looking guy came out and walk around the table to give dirty look at me... so lady manager says IT IS AUTHENTIC FOOD IT SHOULD BE SALTY so She says THIS TIME I WON'T CHARGE. What a fanatical customer service. I have friend that owns Vietnamese, Thai restaurant and I know that is fact.. there is no such authentic dish served SALTY over cooked chicken!!

This used to one of the well known Vietnamese restuarants in Calgary where you could always expect excellent food and value. Not anymore. Terrible tasting- every one of the 6 dishes we ordered had enough salt to fill an ocean. Absolutely the worst Vietnamese cuisine I have had in a long time. To add even more salt to the injury, unbelievably high prices. Even charged for the plain white rice that was cold when it arrived at the table. I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone anymore. Too bad, used to have some class.

Still have food sitting next to me...lemon grass what ? OMG can not taste anything over the saltyness....terrible. I'll stick with my regular vietnamese restaurant and will not waste my money here anymore. Would not even recommend it. NOt worth the time Not worth the money and would not recommend it to anyone.

Having travelled to Vietnam and married a Vietnamese woman I feel I know the difference between authentic and not. This restaurant, like most others in Calgary caters to Western tastes, so most will probably find the food OK because they don't know any better. If you want authentic Vietnamese food try one of the many small restaurants along 17th Ave. S.E. My wife thinks Noodle World in Little Saigon Mall and Minh Chau Restaurant on 9 Ave. S.E. are the best Calgary has to offer.

I've tried dozens of different Vietnamese resturaunts in the city, and none compare to Oriental Phoenix on 58th ave. The food may be a little overpriced, but it's worth it. You'll eat every last bite. And never in my life have I tasted peanut sauce so good!

If you're looking for a classy restaurant then this is the place for you. But if you want good food and good service then i would suggest the many other smaller vietnamese restaurants in calgary. It's all flash here with no substance. The food was a fusion of Vietnamese with Bland and the waiters were snotty. If i wanted to pay those kind of prices, i'd expect a lot more.

I really enjoyed the food, they had great spring rolls, shrimp wrappers and a main course. It was delcious, there desert menu was quite appealing to. It was a bit exspensive but deafintley worth the pay.

On a weekly basis, we meet up with a group of friends at the downtown location. There are never any complaints in regard to THIS location on 9th Ave - 3rd St SW. The price is very reasonable, the food is quality and the service is speedy - all with a smile! I would highly recommend the downtown location - it's ideal for business meetings, a date or even for the family. Critique it for yourself, I'm confident you will not be disappointed.
