Sultan's Tent (The), Calgary

I have lost count the amount of times we have visited this place but it certainly numbers over 30 times. We have never had one negative experience, in fact quite the opposite! It is by far our favourite place to eat out. The food is consistently fantastic in quality, excellent flavours, fresh, and well presented. Service is always low key in tone and knowledgeable, never rushed or imposing. The ambiance is perfect, calm relaxing and private. I'm happy they managed to find a new location on 14st, it's just as cozy as the original location. As for some of the reviews on here saying the food is expensive, I can't imagine what they are comparing it to? The "Feast" is $48 for a five course, hearty meal and a large pot of fresh mint tea - how you can complain about the price is beyond me? I have never had a problem with a reservation, even if it is made months in advance, never had unfriendly service either - quite the opposite. We'll be going back for many years I'm certain!

Love the atmosphere, food is fabulous. Kick off your shoes and lounge with comfort while you stuff your belly sultan style! Romantic for two and fun for more. Request private booth on reservation for even more from the atmosphere....you won't even see the other patrons!

The evening started with a stern looking Hostess telling us that we did not have reservations despite a confirmation on phone. Little while later she realised her mistake and seated us in a corner...but the mood was set for the night! The Decor was straight from a East Indian restaurant, one sees in the North East part of Calgary. The saving grace was the Waiter who made the effort to go through the Menu in detail. The Falfal salad was excellent but could not say the same about the rest of the Supper. The Bill for 4 came to $220 and was it worth it ?? Will I go back again ?? You know the answer to that one...don't ya ?

We felt ripped off, for the price of food: the service was slow, forgetful, mistaken, our food ended up getting cold because we were waiting for bread, got ripped off on the alcohol in our drinks (TINY amounts and I know my drinks). And frankly, the food was good, but not that great. and having it cooled off didn't help. I didn't expect this because I'd heard great things about this restaurant and maybe the waiter and associated people had an off night but it was a really disappointing experience and I was embarrassed I had suggested it, as it was supposed to be a special night out with some friends and we ended up with an icky feeling and basically couldn't wait to leave. I don't mind the eating with the hands thing - but for their attitude and prices ... it didn't meet up. It was like, this a place to splurge if you're in university, easily impressed, and you want a night out with your school buddies a group of friends, but if you've been around some...this place wouldn't be on the top of my list, especially if you're bringing friends from out of town. As I said, it was embarrassing.

what not to like?! amazing and so yammy... I would recommend it highly to everyone especialy who have guests from out of town or other places. Price: you pay for the service and quality of the food... I don't know why some people complain about the price. Do you complain about expensive clothing you buy from GAP or BANANA REp?! this is something actualy goes to your body and exteremly healthy and good for your health! why nag? i think it is well worth it. I have lived in Morocco and found this restaurant to be quite authentic. The food is excellent as is the atmosphere! I have tried all the moroccan restaurants in town and this is the best one.

This place far exceeded our expectations in every way, food, atmosphere, service, everything....Andrew, our waiter took exceptional care of us and treated us to a unique experience, we will never forget. We were celebrating our son's engagement and he made it extra special. The food was extraordinary and unbelieveably delicious. We will DEFINITELY be back! .....must go there.

I love the way we are treated from eging to end, the food is amazing and I can take anyone there and they will leave with a full stomach and a smile aswell as my self.

It was a great experience from beginning to end. I enjoyed having my hands washed from the most beautiful Vase, then given a huge bath towel to collect the little morsals that escaped my hands. Did I mention you eat with your hands. the entire experience was fantastic!

I tried the sultan's fiest, it was amazing. We were there for about two and a half to three hours in our cozy booth. My only complaint is the price, it it was a little more affordable I would recommend the Sultan's tent to everyone.
