Salt and Pepper Restaurante
This Mexican restaurant has been around since 1988, and has quite an extensive menu. Although it is on the small side in terms of space, it offers a cozy ambience that is often missing from larger establishments. You can join them for either lunch or supper, and you can choose from foods running the gamut from the very spicy to the very mild. Domestic and imported beers and wines are available. Salt and Pepper adds a touch of class to their decor with beautiful hardwood floors and attractive glass topped tables. Reservations are recommended if your party consists of six or more.
Rude Manager, Long Wait, Overpriced \"Mexican\" slop

A truly unbelievable experience at the Inglewood location. Took more than 20 minutes to get our order taken, when the restaurant was only half full, and then the manager got irate at a comment about slow service. It then took nearly an hour for two simple dishes (one of which was ceviche, which does not even need cooking!), and even when the waitress wanted to give us a break on our bill for the errors, the manager, Alfonso, went out of his way to tell us he would not give us any kind of break, that we were "looking for a break," and that he outright denied any errors or slowness. It was our own fault, apparently, that we did not like the service! NEVER GO HERE, if you are interested in good food, and being treated like a human being. These people have no idea what it means to work in the "service industry."
I visited the Bowness restaurant on a night that was not busy by any stretch. I was the only person waiting for a table. I waited for at least five minutes in plain sight of a staff member who was setting a table (this person turned out to be the manager). He returned to the kitchen area but I could see him just standing there so I gestured to him that I would like to be seated. He came over finally and I explained that I was waiting for some time, he responded that he was busy. I had been watching him the whole time so when I took exception to his comment, he told me he "had no time for this" and walked away. Extremely rude behaviour from an completely unapologetic man. I will never set foot near this restaurant again, nor will I ever recommend it to anyone. Horrible service and from a manager who clearly has stopped caring a long time ago.
We went to the Bowness location having been told that the food was good. Not so. Food is overpriced, portions are ridiculously small, and taste is ok at best. For $20 fajitas, the amount of food was insanely small (2 small tortillas, a small scoop of rice, and a small bowl of pepper and meat). Calamari was also small portion and tasteless. Will definitely not be going back to that restaurant.
Starting with the entire lack of interest from the hostess/server when I entered the restaurant, I learned quickly that any sort of positive response this restaurant has received has nothing to do with their customer service or atmosphere.
It was a sunny day so we decided to sit on the patio. Unfortunately, being located on Macleod Trail means that the busy road and loud traffic creates a poor ambience, and the peeling paint of the fence and the building makes it feel like the restaurant is not taken care of properly.
The hostess/server forgot our appetizers and only brought us our main courses. She did not seem to care she got our order wrong, and she did not check in on us throughout our entire meal; I had to go up to her to ask for more water. This made no sense as there were only three other tables (of two to three people) the entire time we were there.
The food is extremely expensive for mediocre plating and appearance, and below-average Mexican food. The 'chef' salad, for example, was horrible, and the soup and quesadillas we tried were easily forgettable.
This is a great little place for a cozy dinner or for family eating and we have been there several times. The space is small and the restaurant is always busy so reservations are a good idea.
We love the mexican food which is very close to the real thing and have recommended this place to numerous friends/family who also fell in love with it and return time and again.
I have been to the Salt and Pepper on numerous occasions for lunch and must say it is as close to authentic Mexican food as I've had outside of the country. Definitely worth trying. Excellent food and above-average service. I will be back!
We went to the Bowness location. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. The waiter was quite rude, and inattentive. We ordered chips and salsa as an appetizer, which we never got. My meal was chiles rellenos which had obviously been reheated from frozen, and was presented in all its lukewarm glory. My companions meal was nothing special either. I would have complained if any serving staff had come within a mile of our table. And of course, when we got the bill-there was the chips and salsa we never got. This was seriously the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever visited. All that and overpriced too.
The service was great. The restaurant was cozy. The food is superb. Reminds me of Mexico to the tee. You can definitely tell when a restaurant is family owned and they passionate about what they do. Love it!
