Osteria de Medici Restaurant
Osteria's superior upscale Italian cuisine has been tempting the palates of Calgarians for so long, that the owner offers her cookbook, "Antonietta's Classic Recipes," for sale on the premises as well as in local bookstores. Sophisticated without being stuffy, this is high-class dining in a relaxed atmosphere. You will find gourmet Italian dishes, veal, chicken and seafood lovingly served with attention to detail and service. In addition, there is a very extensive wine selection. The weekday lunch crowds are usually heavy, so reservations are highly recommended.
I love this restaurant. I have dined at Osteria over the past 15 years and I still consider it the best italian restaurant in Calgary. The service and food is superb with a family operated atmosphere it is truly lovely. I highly recommend it for any occassion.
Today, July 19th 2010, has to be the worst dining experience I have had. It was my birthday and my fiancée just finished her professional exam, so we decided to go somewhere nice to celebrate. Osteria came up when I searched google and general review on the food was favourable. My fiancée and I called the place ahead to see if there was parking; the server said there are parking in the front.
We got there and hang a right on southbound 10th St NW, only to be "greeted" by an angry, rude and uncivilized man dressed in an orange t-shirt that had no manner and full of profanity, telling us to get off their property and swearing like a mad man. It turned out to be the owner's son. (On their website it shows there are 2 sons, I am not sure which one was the impolite person, as he was definitely not dressed appropriately for a fine dining restaurant.) Apparently there was a stampede tent setup minutes ago and they were in the process of clean up. The son yelled "you are stupid enough to drive in here." amongst many other unmentionable words. My fiancée was behind the wheel at the time, with me on a call in the passenger seat. We were confused, shocked as there were not a single sign at the entrance noting the customers not to enter. I was furious because we, the customers, were treated with zero respect. I got out of the car to see what was going on only to hear him yelling at me to get out of their private property.
The man doing the clean up (probably a contractor hired by the restaurant) was polite and apologized to us for the orange-shirted man. He explained the clean up situation and asked us to drive in from the entrance via Kensington. We were extremely shocked at the zero care for customer service and barbaric attitude the owner's son had. They may have good food, but this guy is out of his mind for thinking he can yell at anyone as he pleases. This disgusts me, I can’t believe how big-headed some people can get in this world.
We left at the end of this entire fiasco and went somewhere the contractor recommended. I will tell all my friends and relatives, and all people on the internet to stay away from this place, as the people that runs this place have absolutely no intention to treat their guests with proper manner.
Overpriced & overrated. The arrogance of the staff was appalling. Overall it was a very disappointing evening. If you are looking for a pleasant dinner with a friendly atmosphere, this is not the place for you.
I do not like when a restaurant charges extra thing on a bill that is gunna be big anyway ! To agree to take off 6000$ of the new years bill to player of the Oilers, show your neglagaince. Dont not eat here
The food was bland and overpriced, the service was awful at best. I would have been better served by going to the Olive Garden. I'm not sure what Osteria de Medici translates into English as, but I'm guessing it means "Overpriced and Mediocre"
I was not impressed with the food.
It is overrated in my opinion and what the owner did to the Oilers was disgusting. He should have kept it private. He just wants attention for his restaurant. IM pretty sure he wouldnt do that if it was the flames.
tsk tsk..shame on you!!!!!
I attend many nice restaurants as a guest speaker. I found this place to be well over priced. The food is average and not very tasty. They wouldn't take my black trench coat as they said it would be too easy to get mixed up with other
black coats which I found strange. Leaving the place takes about half an hour since you have to wait for your car. Not recommended, go to murrieta or The Belvedere.
From the minute we entered to the minute we left it was a disappointing experience. I dont think the staff give a hoot about anyone and the food was terrible. I dont receommend this place to anyone. Go to Subway and at least enjoy your food.....
The title says it all. From the rudeness in how we were dealt with when we made the reservation to the general apathy of the waiter throughout the meal. Its hard to notice the food and the ambiance when such an important component of the dinning experience was lacking.
I wont go back. Not a very good value... For those prices I would expect a professional staff.
