Marathon Ethiopian Restaurant, Calgary

Marathon is the best Ethiopian Restaurant in Calgary. The foods are always delicious. The variety of the foods are fabulous. The waiter named Dawit is very energetic, polite, friendly, courteous,quick and always fun to talk to him. The customer service that he is giving is wonderful it is very unique. He is very fast to come and greet you as soon as you entire the place. Excellent customer service comparing to the other Ethiopian Restaurant. Continue what you are doing. Good Job and keep inproving.

I haven't been to Marathon in years and it was amazing. The navy beans and lentils are outstanding. The beef was spicy but very flavorful. I love this restaurant and I think if you are going to give Ethiopian food a try then this is a great place to start.

It was the worst food I've ever had cold to spicy and taste less

We were a grooup of guys trying out Ethiopian Food and specially wanted to see if the previous reviews were right.On the contrary we were so delighted to find out the experiance bondable, fun and food from up above awsome we are actually planning to go back with even more groups.

I just had the most disgusting meal I've ever had tonight. I've been eating Ethiopian food for years and after a one year break from Marathon due to poor quality, I went back tonight. It was absolutely disgusting. The food was cold, tasteless, watery and sweet. I think it had been frozen or refrigerated for too long. The restaurant did refund my money, which was good, but I will never go back. Blue Nile or Fassils are much better choices. I'm not really sure how Marathon has managed to stay in business....

What a disappointment, laid back can be charming but only to a certain extent. The service was way too slow, the waiter actually threw down the menu at us, took forever to get our orders and he forgot my drink which was essential since the food was quite spicy. We had to stand in line to pay for the dinner, the guy just disappeared for a good half hour. The food was actually not bad but overall a really sub par experience, couldn't wait to get out of there and not going back.

I have been going to Marathon loyally for years now - I think it is the best ethiopian food in the city. As a vegetarian, it is so nice to be able to order straight off of a menu, and not have to change a thing. The staff is friendly and personable, and I always enjoy my experience there. My only negative comment is the fact that you have to wait a long time for your food (but it is worth it in the end!!). Go there when you are not YET hungry, and by the time your food arrives you will be definitely ready to chow down!

What a unique dining experience for me, I have never tasted such strong flavors and spices. The food was absolutely amazing. It was truly authentic food with ambiance to match. Marathon Ethiopia will become one of me and my boyfriends favorite eat-out places in calgary.

I loved the Kitfo, but service was obviously slow (it takes time to microwave the dishes). The server lost our order and forgot about us for an hour or so, then came and told us that it was all straightend out , then the dishes came out ,, obviously not right missing some and double in others. The server skidded away and did not return , we were too hungry not to eat what was brought. Food was good in comparison to some other ethiopian places we tried. In the end we were charge double and confronted the server but he said that is what he understood we ordered..... Not true!! we were very clear but i guess when you don't write the orders down it gets confusing. So we left with a big doggy bag of leftovers and a $10 expired gift card... If this doesn't dissuede you, try the kitfo it's amazing...

Marathon perfectly captures the laid back dining atmosphere enjoyed in Ethiopia. The food's authentic tastes and textures are true to fare found throughout the country. If you're in a hurry, grab fast food; this place is for relaxing, taking it easy and appreciating the company you're with. While waiting for the main course, enjoy one of Ethiopia's distinctive beers or perhaps a glass of cold mango juice. Injera and the various types of purees and stew-like dishes are quite filling, so you may want to skip an appetizer. Wash your hands because there are no utensils needed here! Come with an open mind, leave with a satisfied stomach and you will definitely want to return again and again!
