Don Quijote Spanish Restaurant
The menu at this downtown restaurant offers a selection of Spanish dishes, including Valenciana paella and other classics, but the food is not nearly as hot as the dancing. Four nights a week everyone's attention is fixed firmly on the dance floor. Latino bands take the stage, and the place pulses with merengue and salsa dancers. The pros who take the floor have moves that are mesmerizing, and the enforced dress code ensures that everyone looks beautiful.
Don Q is a great place to go dancing if you enjoy salsa, merenque, cha cha and good latino music. The band is always good. The cover charge is too much and the woman working at the door is extremely rude and arrogant!!!! The service is mediocre and the food is expensive. The only reason this place has survived for so long is because Calgary lacks a reall vibrant night life such as Miami! We need more nightlife to shake up some of the owners who are clueless in how to treat customers.
I lived for 5 years in Spain, and I have to say that the food is really good over there. But definitely not in this restaurant. They don't offer Spanish Tortilla or Croquetas, just a mediocre paella and a few more dishes, which aren't very typical anyway.
The music after dinner is good, but is not from Spain, just South American Salsa. Its like listening to country music on an English Pub.
The service was poor and slow. And you like it or not, 15% tip is included on the price, regardless of party size. The bill was $150 for 2 starters, 2 entrees, 2 drinks and 1 dessert, very overpriced for what you get.
Do not eat here! I booked a table for 30 and the staff were rude, the food was over-priced and over-cooked, and the chef closed the kitchen half-way through the meal with no explanation. People were still hungry so I ended up taking them across the street to Joey Tomato's instead!
Great restaurant, love the band on Saturdays, and the food is good, it is a bit pricey but I really don't care it's all about the food and ambience. And by the ways Ceviche is latin american and is typically served in Peru, Ecuador , mainly latin countries. Don Quijote is a spanish restaurant ok!!!, the owner is from spain not south or central american. So no! why would they serve cerviche if it isn;t something served in spain HELLO!!!!
For some reason, all Spanish/tapas in Calgary is overpriced and bland. Me: "Can I have ceviche?" Waiter: "Oh no, its not on our menu, and it takes days to make it properly otherwise it is dangerous to eat". Give me a break.
