Booker's BBQ Grill and Crab Shack
Although the prices are a little expensive, this restaurant makes a strong effort to bring Cajun flavor and culture to Calgary. The decor is a little loud, with lots of dark woodwork that is reminiscent of a set from a Louisiana riverboat movie. The staff is quite friendly and the service prompt. The clientele consists of both businesspeople out for something different and rabid Cajun food fans. There is a smoker in the kitchen, which can smoke-cure an entire pork shoulder for the restaurant's famous North Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich. A meal without alcohol will cost between CAD 7-20. Drink prices range from CAD 3.50 for a domestic beer to CAD 25 for a bottle of wine. Reservations are recommended on Friday and Saturday nights.
Totally love going here, and bringing visitors to Calgary here! Great food, great ambience, great service... overall excellent experience.
With exception of poor access (totally at no fault of the restaurant - come on CITY!), you can't pick a better place for a fun night out.
I honestly do not think that they have a real chef in the kitchen. Their were eight of us and eery dish had something wrong with it. Meat was dry, food was too salty, soups were too creamy and the fish was almost raw. the rice dishes tasted like microwave dinners.
How can you screw cooking a scallop! I do not recommend it, you get what you payed for!
We left that evening feeling like we just wasted allot of money on allot of really bad food. Not a good night.
The place was almost empty. It seemed like a chore for our waitress to serve us. We were sat in the smoking section near an exit door for staff only which the staff constantly trudged pass us with garbage from the kitchen & one staff member after another going for smoke breaks.
The crab cakes were mushy & certainly not tasty enough to deserve the $14 price tag for 3 cakes. My husband had the AAA steak which had so much grisel on it that he could hardly chew it. My BBQ pork sandwich was tasty which made up for the sides of the horrible ceasar salad & coleslaw.
Won't be returning here.
