Kaffa Coffee and Salsa House
There can not be many coffeehouses in Calgary that are more comfortable than this one. Located in a renovated house in hip Marda Loop, this cafe is a perfect place to while away the hours over a "cup of joe." The wooden patio is especially inviting, as are the homemade soups and salsas. You can even check your e-mail on the online computer while the kids run amok in a toy-blessed children's area. Who wouldn't love this place?
I have visited Kaffa on and off for about 10 to 12 years and am sadden by the changes that seem to have occured over the past 5 or so years. I still love the ambiance of this old converted house and the history that lives on the walls with pictures of the original owners and old city map. However, some how I feel less welcome to hangout than when I first visited maybe this is the point of all the signs telling me to do this or that, that I am some how inconveniencing them with my patronage. Kaffa used to have an atmosphere like a local pub with the students that used to stay and study and write papers over numerous cups of coffee. It seems that Kaffa has decided that they want you to come in but just not for too long.
This coffee house is a great place to meet with friends or read the paper. The outdoor patio is perfect in the summer.
I have been savouring espresso here for several years and am sorry to see the prices skyrocket recently... However, I still think it's worth it! Starbucks etc aren't far behind so you may as well pay decent money for a great experience.
They are no longer open so late. 9pm was the last sign I saw. I think they have a hard time finding staff.
Greatest Coffee House in Calgary. Great value given the ambiance and service. This place is better than being in PARIS!Great deck and it's licensed!!! Nothing in town can match this place. Bring cash though.
I loved the fact that it's an old house...it was super cozy and comfortable, and the staff were awesome. They definitely have the best americanos of all the coffee houses I've ever been to.Also, who knew a bagel with salsa and sour cream could be so darn good? (the Kaffa bagel).
