Long Calgary's most prestigious French restaurant, this is where the Mercedes-Benz crowd heads for power dinners and special occasions. The menu is an exotic blend of the traditional and the adventurous, such as roasted breast of pheasant or sauteed ostrich medallions. Set in brick and stone quarters, the restaurant also features a wine menu with more than 450 selections. The decor offers an elegant chateau-room feel, with meals served on fine bone china and wine in crystal glasses. Do not show up wearing jeans if you want to get past the front door.
I have eaten in most of Calgary's fine dining establishments and am always impressed by the professionalism of La Chaumiere's staff.
Both the Maitre D' and the Sommelier made a point of ensuring all our needs (and the needs of the other diners were being met). The wine list is a wine lover's dream.
Service was slow. Appetizer was great but it was down hill after that. A French restaurant with a terrible Creme brulee ......... what can be worse. Celeriac puree on the entrée was salty. And they served vanilla Ice cream as honey Ice cream.
Expected a lot but disappointed.
I can honestly say that I have eaten at THE finest restaurants in our city and we have a number of wonderfully talented chefs and wait staff but none top La Chaumiere for quality of food, wine selection, service and price. Any comparable restaurant will have prices similar to La Chaumiere....believe me, I have compared them...this restaurant is not over-priced, it is in the range you would expect to pay for a meal of this quality! Its definitely a treat to go there and be pampered and well fed but its one that's well worth it.
Really...just becuase it's high class place to doesn't mean you have to pay so much for the food...we went there to try out and what's so special about this place but very dispointed it by the tast of food...presenation was of coure good but..for the price you are paying for NOT worth it...
From the initial greeting to dessert we had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience at La Chaumiere. The service was exceptional (not all hoity toity as one would expect) and the owner even came through the restaurant to welcome and thank all of the patrons. The food was prepared in a timely manner and all 3 of our meals were delicious. I would also venture to say that they make one of the best lattee's in the city.
I suppose I went to La Chaumiere with too high of expectations, being ranked on a fine dining list as one of the better restaurants in Calgary. Everything from the initial greeting onward was terrible. The service - was the absolute worst I have ever been akin to. The atmosphere was average, and the food was defn not even close to the exceptional caliber foods of typical first-class restaurants. I wouldnt waste your time with this establishment.
