La Caille on the Bow
Overlooking the banks of the Bow River, La Caille is a tad expensive, but well worth it, especially if romance is on the agenda. You can choose to sit upstairs in their formal dining room or downstairs by the large stone fireplace. The food is French Continental with offerings such as shrimp, scallops and mussels in a white wine sauce. They also serve game, pasta and beef for their entrees, but expect to pay about CAD50 per diner.
I was disappointed with this restaurant - especially considering the price. It received a lot of hype on the radio so I was expecting good things.
The service was ok, as was the atmosphere; but I felt the food was mediocre at best. Maybe this was a one off, but I'm not tempted to go back and spend a small fortune in an effort to find out!
My husband took me there to propose, it was an amazingly elegant place, people were well dressed, the wait and greeting staff very curteous....our dinner was wonderfull and cooked to our liking, our waiter recommended a great wine with our dinner and they brought my dessert with the ring box on the plate and I did not expect a thing!
Everyone was wonderful and very accomodating, our whole experience was great wether it was the food, service or the ambiance, I was extremely pleased.
We have gone there twice since and plan on going again at our 1 year anniversary....Yes it is on the expensive side, but if you want a special dinner or experience that is unlike every other restaurant in Calgary, that would be the place to go to!
I had the most incredible service at La Caille on Valentines day. Our waiter was very attentive, the food was unchallanged, and the atmosphere was so romantic. When it got dark they turned on all the white lights on the trees outside our window and presented me a rose. A night to remember.
