Il Sogno, Calgary

Ihad heard about the 4 daimond rating and the mixed reviews, so I had to see for myself....what a fantastic experience! Servie was professional, the room is beautiful and the food was amazing! The city ahs some great restaurants and this is definitely one!

My advice is skip it and go to Capo Restaurant in Inglewood. This place has been trading off Chef Di Genaro's reputation since he left. Tried Il Sogno again recently and was sorely dissappointed, one again.

I went for dinner here after passing by a few times and thought it looked interesting. The restaurant is quite nice in appearance and being from Toronto I was excited... this may be a good spot in my new home! However I felt uncomfortable watching the service team, seemingly in a state of confusion at times. The food was not of the standard I savored in my home town's priciest locations, I must say I did get enough to eat though, skipping the boring dessert menu. Il Sogno isn't a bad place to go as far as a casual concept but fails a bit in "fine dining", a bit overpriced for uninteresting food, not rustic enough for Italian, and not refined enough for fine dining.

This is not a cheap or fast restaurant. It is pricy, it is well-paced, and it is absolutely wonderful. For ages, Calgary has had one haut-cuisine restaurant, and that has been the River Cafe. Il Sogno settles in happily into that niche, and even surpasses it. Nothing is second rate. Nothing is a compromise. Even better, nothing is pretentious! BRILLIANT food, created and served by people who love food and love customers. What more could you ever want in a restaurant?

It was by far the best brunch I have ever had. For some reason though, I think that they are no longer serving it- the last time I called to make a reservation, that's what I was told. I know they were changing some things around, so maybe they have started again.

I am not sure wha t happened to the other people reviewing....New chef or old chef Il Sogno is and always has been one of my favorite restaurants in Calgary. The flavours are excellent, the service is impeccable and the room is elegant! This restaurant is fabulous! I can't wait to go back!

This place has the worst service I have ever experienced. The hostess is rude. The waiters seem too busy to help with anything, including refilling water or bread. I had to go to the kitchen twice to get basic things, like tableware. The food went downhill, too. Three of the four orders at our table were improperly cooked. One had so much seasoning that I had to wipe the peppery sludge off before it was edible. It is no longer the same restaurant it was. Stay away.

From its rude hostess (who I later found out was the owner!!) to the total lack of understanding of what Italian food should be this restaurant has gone downhill for me bigtime. The chef claims to have worked in Italy, but I guess he didn't learn much there. His version of fusion Italian is a mess - I felt like a guinea pig trying out his tasting menu. Everything seemed to be for shock value and nothing melded or melted in your mouth. I occasionally went to this place before the much beloved chef left (who has now since opened his own place Capo Restaurant in Inglewood)and it was great. An occasional splurge well worth the money but you couldn't get me back there now unless someone else was paying. Pity, it "was" a great place, but don't let previous reviews fool you, they must be from when the previous chef was there.

How good is an Italian restaurant when the original chef (who was italian) is gone? Not very good from the looks of it. Food was a mess. My favorites on the menu were destroyed and not at all what they were the last time i was there. The lady at the door was rude and I dont think I will go back there again.

Superb food and service. Waiter was very professional and seemed to enjoy his work. Not really sure what happened to the reviewer above, because we were thrilled with the experience.
