Columbia Icefield Tours and Glacier Experience

Description

The Athabasca Glacier offers an up close and personal visit to a small portion of the Columbia Icefields. A major attraction is Brewster Tour's, "Glaciers in Motion," a nine and a half-hour interpretive tour of the glacier from within the comfort of a "Snocoach," a customized tour bus equipped with huge all-terrain tires that drives up onto the glacier itself. The company recently added the Columbia Icefield Scenic Walk, which gives intrepid tourists a chance to get up close and personal with the retreating glacier, as well as hear about its rich history.

GLAD WE WENT
By ,
Our coachdriver was very friendly and informative about the area and the glacier, her speech was well put together and interesting. The glacier itself is awesome, never seen anything like it, so glad we went. Lisa

Beautiful experience
By ,
We visited last summer -- it was my husbands idea -- I wanted warm why would I want to freeze in July -- well it was breath taking. Yes a little expensive -- but it was so quiet and beautiful. And you got take a sip of water that mybe a thousand years old -- how cool is that. And yes we had someone fall in too! Not listening to the guide -- the ride was cool and when you stand next to the snow coach and see just how huge it really is it makes you think how tiny we all really are. It may be the last time you get to walk on glacier -- and if you see how much has melted over the years it puts a lot of things in perspective. Nature in all its beauty.

an expensive experience
By ,
$32 per person is too high for the tour. As the guide tells you that the snow bus is around $3.2 million you may justify the cost. Otherwise you can park at the end of the glacier and navigate for free. but ofcouse you miss the information the guides give you and also the bus take you some distance from the edge of the glacier

Cool place!
By ,
Our coach was very nice. He made funny jokes and he was very kind. I loved the spring and it was said to make you look young. The mountain was very cold for summer but I loved it although, it felit like raining everywhere.

A Perfect Snow Job
By ,
I try to get out every time I go to Jasper. First stopped by in 1974. Now new snow coaches but still a fantastic ride. I'd suggest it for anyone. The problem is the weather; sometimes it can be OK in the parking lot but brutal on the glacier's surface. If it's bad out there, don't go. I know it appears to be expensive, but you've got to pay the workers: the ticket agents, the guides, the drivers, the building overhead and the crew that keeps the coaches in shape. Please don't drink the water- it's not pristine. Present day bacteria and bird droppings fall daily onto the glacier's surface water.

Only a 15 minutes ride in the snowbus!!
By ,
When I saw the brochure I thought that I was going for a long ride and watch something that can't be easily seeing from anywhere. Well it was a really, really, really short ride (only 10 - 15 miutes) to get to the glacier, that can easily be seeing from the bottom. I was there for 20 minutes and then they took us back. It was nice, but not $33 nice. If you have been in the snow before, don't bother go there. Just bring some binoculars and stay in the bottom. It is free.
