El Toro Restaurant
This Greek restaurant is known for serving some of the best Chateaubriand in the West. Located in the Irwin's Mountain Inn along Banff Avenue, it opens early and serves a great breakfast for early risers. The atmosphere is elegant and upscale but relaxed. Jeans are as welcome as suits, and the service is quick and friendly. The specialty of the house is Chateaubriand for two, but they also offer an assortment of many other culinary delights. There is a large selection of seafood and Mediterranean and Greek entrees, as well as a full wine menu.
I have been coming to El Toro's for the last 5 years. The owner's are great people to talk to the food is most excellent and aren't to pricey compared to most places in Banff. Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about as the restaurant hasn't been open for breakfast since I have been coming although if it were I am sure it would be just as good. Try the Arni Psito (lamb) which is their best seller I have yet to be disappointed!!!
I've been to El Toro several times as I often stay
next door. Breakfast is fine if pricey, dinner is
a question mark given the expensive menu.
The food choices seemed somewhat limited; the fare
was fair; service what I would call "fake" in that
if you ask for something you get a "Right away, sir,"
but the water or extra bread never seemed to arrive in
time to be enjoyed with the meal.
If you mind them closing the place down around
you because you arrived after summer sunset viewing
(don't miss Banff's sunsets), you might want to eat
first, then view.
Oh, and the deserts need a few more options.
If you are tired of the same old in Banff, this is what you are looking for. The menu is part traditional and part spanish. Everything I have tried I loved and the service is amazing (another rarity in banff. You will not regret a trip to El Toro
