Coyote's Deli and Grill

Description

This tiny restaurant is one of Banff's most highly regarded casual eateries. Casual Coyote's focus is Southwestern cuisine, and the decor obliges with Arizona-style prints adorning the walls. The breakfast menu offers the expected egg and toast dishes including huevos rancheros, while sandwiches and corn-crusted pizzas are featured at lunchtime. The dinner menu serves a variety of meat, chicken and fish entrees, such as Rack of Lamb Zinfandel and Blue Corn Chicken, along with calzones, pizzas and pastas. Coyote's has an impressive wine list and a full bar.

Food good, except pizza - expensive
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/22/08
We were with a large party. Some liked their food, others thought it so-so. The pizza crust was undercooked. We sent it back to the oven. The topping was bland. The portions were less than the waitress told us. Some salads were great. Fish and sauce were nice even with the cold couscous. The choice of drinks is good, coffee really good and corn bread too sweet. The bill left a bad taste: they had automatically included a 20% gratuity. They should have told us beforehand.

Underwhelmed!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/14/06
First off, we never did get called for our reservation. we had to repeatedly ask for our reservation seating. Secondly, the mediterranean pasta was brutal. It was globbed together and when sent back, thrown in a frying pan with more oil, put on a new plate and brought back to the table. the Salmon had to be cooked three times before it was done. We were charged full price for the salmon and when we inquired about a discount, the waitress provided plenty of attitude about the bill. Never go here! Worst restaurant in Banff.

Coyote's is now our dining destination in Banff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/21/07
Enjoyable, entertaining, delicious and clean are the reasons we return to Coyote's on a regular basis. The staff and chefs create a dining experience with plenty of variety. We find the ambiance consistently friendly, a great place for either a romantic dinner or an evening with our family. It is definitely part of our Banff evening out.

Shines above the other restaurants
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/25/08
Superb, innovative food in a relaxed atmosphere. We went back several times in the week we were in Banff. We ordered different things each time, excellent food every time! Who would have thought that "Southwest-style" food in Canada would be so amazingly delicious!

Not the place for pasta!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/07
Had the pasta with sun-dried tomatoes, olives & feta cheese. The entire dish was a small-size serving of overly garlicky,dried-out capellini, with very few sun-dried tomatoes & very little feta cheese. All you could taste was the overwhelming garlic!!At $19,you'd be far better off stopping at the local Safeway to pick up the ingredients to prepare this dish at home!!! Poor value, poor quality!!!

Best Steak Ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/1/07
This place was a hidden treasure. On our vacation I was trying to get my boyfriend to try this place and it didn't sound appealing to him. Thanks to the Hotel clerk for the recomendations, it was on the list. Needles to say. We were here 3 days and ate there 3 times. But I can't complain. I tried something different every day. Of course he had to stick w/the steak that was recomended. He said it was the best steak he had ever had. He has definitel had some steak! It melted in your mouth. The place is very small, very quaint. We had to buy the corn bread mix to bring home w/us. I have already made some and yes it still taste great. They told me the secret in making it. so I kept the recipe and hope to buy more mix. Of course we bought T Shirts the last time in. It will definitely be a stop if ever get close to area again. I wish we had one in our area. Karen Missouri

Rude staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/16/06
We were greeted at the door by a very rude young lady, (we were a party of 2), and made to wait while she seated unreserved parties of 3 that came in after we arrived. Other patrons were clearly upset with her rudeness as well. Never did get to try the food, her attitude certainly tarnished the reputation of this place for us. Will never return.

Great food, lovely service, but...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/16/05
Our experience was great, thanks to our server. A wonderful young lady who made our dinner fantastic. Her service was fun, friendly, and inviting. When we arrived for our reseervation on a Saturday evening (thank goodness we reserved), we were greeting ungracefully and hurried. We were told that we would have to wait for our table in a quite flustered manner. We felt like we should have been treated a little better upon our arrival to the restaurant. A pretty good dining experience all in all.

A great treasure!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/05
This was restaurant that made you feel at home when you are far from home. The atmosphere was great and the food exceptional. The wild berry pancakes are the best I have ever had.

Great food you have never had before
By Kirkwoodian, 5/17/07
We spent the week in Banff and decided to try out the Coyote. Some of us ordered drinks, but they didn't have a full bar with the ingredients to make a Manhattan. (They were missing Dry Vermouth, not the end of the world) We asked for recommendation and the server offered us detailed information based on our different tastes. We had 3 kids under the age of 3 and they were fine, except I assume later on in the night it will be more crowded and not be a easy on the little ones. They have a variety of meals but the Mexican dishes have a nice twist on the usual fair you might expect. Very Good!!!
