Hezekiah's Tunnels

Description

In 696 BC, Hezekiah's men built these tunnels to cut off the water flow into Jerusalem and lead a revolt against the ruling Assyrians. The actions taken by the Judeans are recorded numerous times in Biblical writings. Now, visitors can explore these water-filled tunnels and examine the chisel marks on the walls made by the laborers. Bring flashlights or candles because there is no light in the tunnel. Not suitable for children as the water can reach a depth of four feet and the ceiling is less than five feet in places.

An adventure that you will never forget
By Marty, 7/2/10
The historical significance, the unbelievable engineering as well as the fact that this tunnel still has water flowing through it after 2700 years makes this an amazing place. A must see if you are in Jerusalem.

What an Adventure
By Yochanan, 2/25/08
Bring your river shoes. The flip flops they sell easily come off in the water. Otherwise, a great site to see it is amazing the work that went into building it. At the Pool in the exit, there is a antique shop. The hike back to the old city is a hike. Uphill all the way to the Dung Gate. I was a experience I will never forget.

Amazing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/5/06
I went with a group...We had so much fun!! We sang all the way. It was so cool to be in a place that was so old. You should not go if you are claustrophobic in the slightest bit!! It is very small in some areas and the water is a little chilly! I WOULD DEFINITLY RECOMMEND IT! -13 year old who has been there
