Tucked away just off the High Street, this restaurant is set in a beautiful Tudor building, complete with white walls and wooden beams. It's not the typical venue for an Oriental restaurant, but the elegant surroundings complement the stylish presentation of the food. The main courses are good value and there are interesting vegetarian options. The puddings aren't the most exciting, but overall, this is definitely a restaurant worth trying.

Brilliantly Authentic Thai Food!

We headed to the Chaing MAi Kitchen last night on recommendation from friends. IT had also been quoted in Conde Nast as the place where Oxford ladies lunch so we rang and made a reservation....lucky we did. When we arrived (down very secluded passage way which is easy to miss) the place was heaving and they were turning people away in droves. The staff are polite and friendly and the restaurant has great atmosphere. We ordered and the starters arrived promptly and were utterly devine (stuffed chicken wings and thai pork dumplings). The mains were even better and totally authentic, nothing altered and spiced as they would be in Thailand, none of the usual "watered down" for western palate affair! I can't recommend this place highly enough, but be sure to book well in advance to be sure of getting in...it was Wednesday eve when we went and it was HEAVING! Enough said! Be sure to order Pad bai graprow neua saap....its fantastic!

The food is consistently great. I've never had anything there that I didn't like. Extra vegetarian menu with vegan options as well. Great value. Beautiful, intimate (even romantic) setting. The service is very good. The only drawback is it is almost impossible to get a table unless booked in advance. The mushroom salad is my favourite dish but there are great curries and stir-frys. The menu is full of healthy choices. Highly recommend.
