Greenwich Foot Tunnel
Description
Featuring the Cutty Sark Gardens, the Royal Observatory and a number of smashing pubs, as well as the view-blessed Island Gardens and the fabulous Mudchute Farm and Kitchens , is the rusty, dripping wonder that is the Greenwich Foot Tunnel. Built in 1902, it still carries many a happy soul down 50 ft in the oak panel cad lifts to walk 1,217 ft before they are whisked back up to the surface in another oak cad lift. It is glazed with dirty white tiles (two hundred thousand of them apparently) and is strangely a lot of fun, if slightly spooky.
