Big Ben

Description

Big Ben is the name of the clock inside the famous tower that also forms part of the Houses of Parliament. Its impressive mechanism weighs in at over 13.5 tons, and the pendulum, which beats once every two seconds, is 13 feet long and weighs 690 pounds. The clock was named Big Ben after the First Commissioner of Works, and since 1885 a light above it has been lit while the House of Commons is in session. Residents can schedule a time to climb the clock tower. Unfortunately, non-citizens are not permitted to climb the clock tower.

Wow a spectacular sight! The movies, photos does not do this attraction justice. It reminds you after each bong how fleeting time can be! Definately worth a picture or two p.s. makes you check you watch to make sure you have the right time.

Good Photo Op
This is basically a place to take a picture or bring a lunch and relax in this area. There isn't much to do here except see Big Ben and Parliament and the cathedral around the corner.

Loved It
By ,
I absolutely loved London. There is so much to do and see, and it is very easy to get around. I found the double decker bus tours a great way to see alot of the city and definately worth the price. There is a great mix of historical attractions and fun things for the kids. The London Eye was nice but probably not worth the price. The shows are fantastic, so I recommend seeing one while you are there. Hotels are expensive, but if you look at some thing other than the chains, you can find some nice rooms at a reasonable price. Location is not too important as long as you are with in a comfortable walk to the tube station.

We can't wait to go back
By ,
I like this because it`s big and oldest clock.Big Ben is one of London's best-known landmarks, and looks most spectacular at night when the clock faces are illuminated. You even know when parliament is in session, because a light shines above the clock face.
