Description

The Victoria and Albert Museum celebrates the rich culture of a bygone era. It portrays 27,000 works and over 43,000 images including ceramics, fashion, furniture, glass, metalwork, paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, and textiles. Collections from as far as East Asia, South and South-East Asia, the Middle East and Egypt are housed in the V&A Museum. One can explore the world's most comprehensive holding of post-classical European sculpture. The museum frequently holds exhibitions of its collections. And what's more, you could even shop for books, stationery, gifts and jewelry at the museum. After working up an appetite, head to the V&A Cafe for a bite.

Bo-o-o-o-ring!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/9/05
The British Museum is much more interesting. The last time I visited the V&A, I grew weary of rows and rows of teapots, plates, and other examples of Victorian crockery. There was, at least when I visited it, little creativity or imagination put into the exhibits. It looked as if everything had just been hastily put up on shelves without much thought.

It is wonderful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/27/07
It has lots of activities afor families and specialises in art and design. There were lots of displays, but I think there should be more interactive things taking place.

Don't miss it.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/18/05
Love this museum. It offers so much of the world as the British have been everywhere and collected where they went. Quality artifacts and beautiful to see.

One of the best in London
By CynthiaS, 6/11/06
In the Don't Miss column is the V and A (its a bit funky, it has paintings and furniture and silverware and some clothes, not a real pattern place, but a bit of this and that and its well organized and clean. Better than the Science Museum, Better than the Natural History. Do see this one, and see the British Museum, the Museum of London. Grounds were nice too, and check out the burned out exterior- I thought it was ugly, but then found out that was from the war and it survived with just the burn marks- very historic.

Huge and very fine
By Jack, 2/17/07
Enjoyed most the fashion gallery, musical instruments, plaster cast gallery, glass galleries, and silver galleries most. The Islamic galleries are very fine, but not my favorite art. The Chinese and Japanes collections are ok. For the greatest Chinese galleries I've seen, check out National Palace Museum in Taiwan and especially the Royal York Museum in Toronto.

One of the finest exhibits in the world. They have simply everything. Loved the Egyptian and Roman wings.

The Jewellery Gallery
By Kat, 8/23/10
I travelled there on the morning of Saturday 16th January with my family in tow. After being bag searched and depositing coats in the cloak room we made our way to what we hoped was the jewellery gallery. However, on the way I was distracted by a few other galleries on the way, namely ‘modern’,‘gold’ and ‘silver’ – which housed a few more interesting pieces. Finally I made it to the jewellery gallery which looked intriguing as it was small, dark and full of people! I was disappointed when told I was not allowed to take pictures, but instead took notes about some of the pieces I liked best to find images of on the V&A’s website when I arrived home. I also managed to buy some postcards from the shop. It was interesting to see that the jewellery had been put into date order – and that the jewellery for each decade was quite similar in style. For example the early 1800s had lots of ‘Gothic Ironwork’ pieces. I enjoyed looking around the gallery and the amazing jewellery – some of which did give me ideas for the future. However, I would have preferred going when it was less busy as it was difficult to make notes on pieces. I would thoroughly recommend going to the jewellery gallery – or even any gallery at the V&A museum, as it is sure to have something that will inspire you!

I have recently visited the Victoria and Albert museum and it was great!!! Everybody enjoyed the occasion. I would reccomend it to everyone. Its definetely worth your time and money. You will experience 1800's clothing to 2004's clothing A wonderful way to spend your time adveturing through well thought out cabinets of the most beautiful dresses and suits. You may also visit the gift shop and many other displays and cabinets. See it all for yourself!!!

Never visit a museum alone again!
By London, 3/28/12
The V&A Museum is one of London's best museums to explore. Never explore it alone, come along with the London Cultureseekers Group. We are a very friendly group exploring London's fantastic history and culture through it's museums, galleries, historical buildings, going on guided walks and visiting the theatre.
