For many years, Piccadilly Circus - at the junction of five busy streets - has been a major London landmark, seen by many as the capital's center. In the daytime its a bustling area filled with shoppers, business people and tourists. But visit in the evening to see the area really come alive, with its sparkling illuminated signs and heady mix of clubbers and couples ready for a big evening out. At the heart of Piccadilly is a fountain topped with the aluminum statue of an archer. Although affectionately known as Eros by Londoners, it's actually the Angel of Christian Charity by Sir Alfred Gilbert, and it was so unpopular when first unveiled that he opted for self-imposed exile. Today the statue is one of London s most famous sites and a haven for tourists and romantic couples alike. This is truly the gateway to the West End.
Once we get off the plane, we head directly for Piccadilly Circus!! It is a great place to eat, shop & just soak up the atmosphere!
Can't wait to go again this year! November 2008 cannot come soon enough!
At first i thought it was a circus, with clowns and animals, i was very confused. When we arrived there I was stunned, there was a giant statue and was amazed by how it was. Shops were set up everywhere and it was all very impressive. A pleasing place to go.
Piccadilly is always the first place I go when I get to London. No matter where you are you can hop on the tube and head straight for Piccadilly for anything you would. Food, Shopping, Entertainment, Theatre tickets, Bars, Clubs, Parks...EVERYTHING! I very much enjoy visiting Piccadilly Circus whilst in London.
I absolutly loved all the hussle and bussle of picadilly circus and the sights are brilliant as is the shopping. the tube station is right in the thick of it all and easy to get to. Caint wait to go back and show my mum.
Great area to walk around, particularly at night, when it's pretty busy and nicely lit up with lights. It's not a cheap place to shop, obviously, but it has good stores and a nice atmosphere in general. Worth your time.
I loved the atmosphere in there. So many people, specially tourists, all admiring the dashing lights and the advertising...
The best part: sitting in the square in front of it at night, just before leaving this beautiful city.
