London Zoo - a terrible let down
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/30/06
I used to enjoy going to London Zoo, as it was once the best and most famous zoo in Britain and arguably the world.
However it has changed a great deal over the years, and is now a terrible disappointment, for a number of reasons.
- Entry prices are expensive. The tickets are 14-50 for adults and 11-50 for children, as compared with 10 and 7 at Longleat.
- The zoo has few animals on display, with several sections closed for renovations, and many other enclosures, cages, tanks, etc empty. There are therefore no elephants, gorilla, fish, etc.
- Those sad creatures that the Zoo does have are in what seems nowadays very cramped and cruel conditions.
- The zoo itself is in a very bad state. The whole place needs renovation, particularly the aquarium, and some of the animals are held in smelly and dirty enclosures.
- The zoo concept is now very much out-dated, and people who love animals would be advised to see those animals in the freer and more natural surroundings of a safari park.
I do not recomment London Zoo, but suggest you visit a safari park such as Longleat and Woburn for animals, or the London Aquarium for sea life.
