There's often a quick-moving queque outside this small premises, but the vegetarian cooking is scrumptious and served up in large portions. Takeaways are sold from the kitchen on the ground floor, or you can join the queue descending to the basement dining room. Busy staff pile high the earthenware bowls with nutritious grub from Red Lentil and Tomato Soup to innovative salads made from cracked wheat and butterbeans. A hands-on, co-operative atmosphere of a hippy yesteryear pervades - if you truly desire you can sit on a cushion in the alcove. Conditions can get a tad cramped, but it is eternally popular and constitutes a staple eaterie on the student map. There's no license and no charge for corkage.
I simply have to say: this is the best restaurant Ive ever been to! Well, this is not so difficult as ist is a vegetarian one and I live in a small town in Austria where they still have to notice vegetarians exist(which means: NO such restaurants at all...). Still though, I think its one of the best places to go if you like vegetarian food, fast serving and fair prices. I would even recommend it to non-vegetarians because I cant imagine anyone who wouldnt have liked the gorgeous Hungarian Gulasch(with smoked tofu) I enjoyed. The place seems to be crammed all the time, but funnily enough I didnt have the impression that i was uncomfortable in the least. You can chosse take-away anyways, so this shouldnt be a problem. They offer a big variety of dishes, some also vegan or gluten-free(each of these "specialities" are marked on the menu, so its easy to find out). The taste is great, the food (I think) rather healthy(at least compared to most other restaurants) and the staff was rather nice as well. I love it!
Loved this place! Great food, friendly atmosphere, and nice staff. I had a wonderful meal at this place and met nice Londoners. Tables can be family-style as this is a small place, so I was able to enjoy great dinner company as I was traveling solo at that point. Be sure to get there early as they close early and run out of food!
