Adopting an air of sophisticated arrogance as you enter Simpson's will help to ease the transition into the gentlemen's chess club feel that is harboured by this restaurant. What appears to be your personal butler will usher you into your choice of room - the Grand Divan for breakfast and the roasts that this establishment is so famous for, Simply Simpson's for traditional British food, or the Knights Bar for a few cocktails. Both restaurants are large and elegant, with oak-panelled walls. Here you can also pick up the famed 10 deadly sins breakfast, devoured by many a fat cat of the corporate and banking world.
Simpsons-in-the-Strand is wonderful with turn of the century (20th) decor and attentive yet unobtrusive service. We went for the signature dishes including beef (served from a trolley, and carved at the table) and treacle pudding (velvety vanilla custard, swamping a light citrus pudding) they were overwhelming. It was more than I would usually pay for lunch but a superb experience. Do yourself a favour and go! I'll be back....
last August my husband[J.B.Simpson] myself, my parents and my brother ate at the restaurant. We were excited to treat them to a fine dining experience as we have known every year in the past. it was more than horrible. We couldn't get any water, the rolls were hard and inedible...the potatoes were cold and we couldn't even cut them....The meat was tough and we couldn't even cut it.When we left I told the gentleman at the desk how upset I was...we paid over $250.00 for the meal!! He gave me an e-mail address to write to...which I did. the response was that they would credit my gratuity back....which never came through. The service was terrible ...the food worse...the wine inferior ...the location devine!!
