Cafe España

Description

Ignore the urge to assume that this is a tourist-driven concern. Ignore also the Soho sex shops amongst which Cafe España nestles. Just dive straight in and sample as wide a selection of tapas as you can muster. This bustling establishment offers staple, hearty Spanish fare at excellent value for money amid a friendly melting pot of Soho regulars. The traditional range of tapas costs between £2-5, including mejillones a la marina, which is as ample a portion of mussels as you could wish for. Main courses are equally generous and the chuletas de cordero a la brasa (grilled lamb chops) costs around £9, as does the house wine and there are some good Spanish bottles on the list. Turnaround tends to be quick but without feeling hurried.

Fabulous!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/11/08
I love this place. Always really friendly staff that will go out of their way to make sure you can get a table. They do not take bookings on fri or sat nights, but if you call them half an hour before you plan to get there, they will start to arrange a table for you. If you have to wait for your table when you get there, they may give you a free glass of bubbly. The food is always quick and delicious, wine is good, all a bit messy and fabulous fun. I always take my friends here when they visit London, and we never really leave sober. I recommend it to everyone.

Spain in London
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/15/05
Like many good restaurants, this place looks like it is not. It success depends therefore on delivering quality and value consistantly. That it does this is demonstrated by its popularity, its mixed clientele - many Spanish, and the only complaints you hear are not being able to get a seat. Its busyness only addds to its atmosphere and make it feel like Spain. Tapas excellent and huge. Fish absolutely fresh and good value. Prices - cannot believe this is London. Peter Gordon
