Mother India, Glasgow

The food was absolutely top notch, the menu seems very unique and the food we ordered was cooked to perfection. The service was on par with other popular Indian restaurants but the staff were very friendly and eager to please. The only negative was the fact that the place was really busy, but with food like that, I guess that was to be expected. Having been recommended this place by a friend, I was pleasantly surprised and would definetly recommend this restaurant.

we visited the restaurant on a thursday night.The restaurant was busy but not packed.The service from the off was excellent the food out of this world i have never had lamb so tender in a indian restaurant. i throughly enjoyed the whole evening, would highly recommend and would definitely go back when im next in glasgow.

We visited this restaurant on Saturday 12th July at 8pm, table for 2 in the Cellar, Table 39. We were having a lovely time and the food was very good. Then in came a party of 30 and they had been seated next to our table. The noise was unbelievable and made conversation impossible. We finished our meal much quicker than we would normally do and left.We complained to the waitress only to be told "they may quieten once they start eating"!!! Unfortunately we will not be back which is a shame because I have enjoyed many meals there, but my guest had never been before and has decided he will not return. It was not the fault of the patrons, it was the fault of the management seating a table for 2 next to a party.

Thought the food was fantastic, the service prompt, efficient and good, and the place was stylish. Are these people talking about the same place? I definitely would return, and my fiancee loved it as well!!

Had a really bad experience here on New Year’s Eve 2007. The table was cramped and up against a radiator causing us to get blasted with hot air, and because it was across a step it was not flat. The food in general was greasy. When we complained that a nan was not peshwari but plain it was brought back with a few almonds sprinkled on. The sag paneer had obviously been reheated in a microwave as had the rice. I eat Indian/Bangladesh food every week and unfortunately this was the worst food I have experienced really the flavours did not work for me. The reality was the staff wanted to get the customers out of the restaurant so that they could celebrate the new year and possibly had took short cuts to get a fast turn around, fair enough, but if you are not going to give the service why open. There were good bits - I really liked getting a text to confirm my reservation and I liked that I could bring my own wine, the pompadoms were excellent. The decoration of the restaurant was to a good standard.

I have been to many indian restaurants around Glasgow but this is by far the best. The food is cooked the way it should be and service was great. Definitely no complaints

Absolutely the worst Indian meal I have had in 25 years of eating Indian food. The meal was rushed, not cooked properly, bland and our complaints were dismissed out of hand. Glasgow has some great curry houses, and this place ranks as the lowest of the low. There are plenty of other places to eat so go and spend your hard earned money somewhere else, don’t waste it on this place!!!

We have been going to this restaurant for years and always found it excellent. However our recent sojourn left us very disappointed and frustrated. Environment. Although our party of 3 clearly had someone who had mobility restrictions, we were ushered down a winding stair to the basement and pointed to very high chairs around a raised table. We were shown another table on request, but subsequently saw an elderly couple given the same table and asking to be moved. Food The spiced haddock was good. The other 2 starters were bland. Nowhere near the previous standard. For the main courses, the chicken dish was unappetising and mostly left uneaten. The lamb on the bone was tough and dry and not particularly well spiced, again not eaten. We told the waiter why we hadn’t eaten the food but no one seemed interested. Overall, the whole excursion was a waste of an evening and of money. The overall impression was of hurry, noise and a huge lack of care. Highly NOT recommended.

booked a 2 hour sitting last Saturday. Arrived on time and shown to our table. Waited 20 mins and had to ask for menus. One of my friends got his starter 15 mins later. After a further 10 mins had to ask where the other 3 starters were. Finished our main courses and were promptly handed the bill - hard lines if we wanted a dessert and/or coffee. Won't be back

Went to Mother India on a trip to Glasgow last week. Had a good first course, followed by a very interesting main course of Sea Bass, definitely not run of the mill Indian cooking. Our meal was then ruined by someone at the next table starting to smoke cigarettes. We had not been asked to choose smoking/non smoking - and the tables were all laid out without ashtrays, so we had assumed the place was simply non-smoking. We were really annoyed at this and left promptly once we finished our main course - no dessert & coffees for us...and no tips for the staff. Why do restaurants that have pretensions to serve good food do this? For us, there is nothing more guaranteed to spoil a meal than smoke. Restaurants must either be non smoking or offer an effective non-smoking section. Roll on the smoking ban, we say!
