Falconry Scotland

Description

Formerly the Birds of Prey Center, Falconry Scotland continues to introduce the public to the power, agility and beauty of these awesome predators. Get face to face with eagles, kestrels and owls - there are 30 different species of bird to view and aerial displays daily. If you get hooked by these taloned raptors, there is the chance to handle the birds yourself, enjoy a quick introduction, go on a "Hawk Walk" and then take the plunge into the art of falconry. Once you have mastered the falconer's knot, some basic handling and the essential flying techniques, the sky is the limit. The center also organises falconry holidays. Demonstrations and handling sessions are available on a pre-booked basis only, please telephone the center to discuss your needs and their current rates.

Fantastic!
By ,
If you have any interest in Birds of prey, I highly recommend the "Ultimate Experiance". I've love Birds of prey, and enjoyed watching them on TV, but to actually experiance them upclose and have them fly to your hand is a great experiance. I am definately going back to try out hunting!

unforgettable experience
By ,
I was privileged to have a Hawk Walk at Dalhousie and it was incredible experience. Tom, the Falconer, explained all about the bird, a Harris Hawk and soon she was landing on my arm to get food. we walked around the grounds with the bird swooping down around us, landing on my arm and even walking alongside us! It was amazing to see the bond between Tom and his bird and to be a part of that. After the walk Tom talked us through the other birds at the site, explaining their behaviours and traits. A great morning and i'll be going back for more of the same and other experiences that the centre provides. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Most memorable part of our trip!
By ,
We were privileged to take part in the Ultimate Falconry Adventure at Dalhousie Castle in May 2006. We got to fly 2 owls, 1 hawk, and 1 buzzard. It was an amazing experience we will never forget! The falconer was full of knowledge and let each person handle each bird several times before starting on the next bird. We were able to enjoy the birds for about 2-1/2 hours. Some of the birds were allowed to fly into the nearby trees and back to our arms. The falconer had a close bond with each of her birds, and described the personality of each one. We are animal lovers, and really appreciated getting up-close and personal with these magnificent birds. We'd recommend this package from Falconry Scotland to anyone. We spent 3 weeks on our first trip to Europe, and this was the highlight! Pam & Terry Palatine, Illinois, USA
