not enough to do for kids, cafe facilitys, toilets. a bit to expensive as need to pay for parking.

Excellent for a whole day out.My 11 year old loves it and insists on going to all the talks and animal handling sessions which are so well run and fun. We try to go 2-3 times a year and can't wait for the new chimp area to open.

it was absolutly excellent i loved all of the animals even the rarest ones! i took all of my family and the money was good pricing was great overall a brilliant family day out!

this is an excellent family place to vist with any age group fully enjoyed it! Try the holiday inn next door its a great place to stay

My husband and I visited the zoo in March 2006. We loved it. It is much bigger than it seems from the road, so don't be fooled. There is a great variety of animals and the exhibits are beautiful. The penguin exhibit is amazing; definitely a must see. The setting is absolutely beautiful. There are several indoor exhibits if it starts to rain. The gift shop is very nice as well. The zoo is a great way to spend a nice afternoon in Edinburgh. I would definitely recommend visiting this zoo. It is one of the best we have seen.

the zoo was brilliant and all the staff were very friendly but the one thing that i am going to complain about is the way it is sign posted i came all the way from berwick and all the way to the zoo i seen 2 sign posts telling you where it was. i asked many people for directions, and after 2 hours i finally found the zoo. i am not happy, i suggest that you get some more sign posts up telling people where the zoo is.

One of the times i visited was when poor Mercedes the polar bear was still here and that poor old soul was one of the most miserable looking bored creatures I have ever seen. They are particuarly bad for breeding animals to work as a vistor draw and then culling them. google red river pigs edinburgh to find out more on that one. Only this year it is working on getting the giant pandas in to be a real money spinner yet at the same time it has been threatened with the removal of its operating licence after inspectors found it had failed to address a series of animal welfare and safety failings that date back at least five years. At the same time it is spending a fortune on pandas: the big cat enclosure is in a terrible state of disrepair; the sea lion enclosure has several animals were suffering from eye infections; and the main food store was infested withvermin. In additon to that just what you need when bringing in the worlds rarest bears with tricky needs - problems with the zoo's veterinary hospital. All of the above inspection findings are fully verifiable via freedom of information documents and other publications.

Surprising size - much bigger than it appears from the road. Love the fact they participate in conservation and only keep animals which they can look after properly. Staff are very friendly, helpful and informative. Already planning the next visit and considering membership!!
