This big and brash gay bar has a basement dancefloor, reigned over by a variety of DJs all determined to get you out on the floor amidst an appreciative crowd to shake your stuff. A popular bar at all times, they also dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to weekly club nights covering everything from 60s and 70s tunes to house and the ubiquitous disco anthems. This is not for the faint-hearted, but perfect for fun fanatics - check out the week-night karaoke and strip nights! If you're up for a good time and have a taste for the outrageous, then this is the place for you - and what's more, admission is free.
staff really nice, just music too cheesy. It looks ok as a club and the people in there seemed OK. Couple of really fit guys. Considering its not just a locals place but a place that gays around the glob would go ot then its poor.
I had been to the other bars in town, and this one was a bit of a walk, but well worth it. They weren't kidding when they say the late night crowd was out, and the basement dance floor was great! It was 1990 and Madonna played endlessly, in a great mix that the DJ never let up from for a second.
I stayed on the dance floor by myself most of the night, and then met a wonderful married man who was a sailor just in for the weekend, before off to London, where he was from. What a great time we had that night, never to see him or talk to him again, but my stay in Edinburgh will always remind me of this bar, and the encounters you find when you are not looking.
(by the way, I think it was called "the laughing duck" or something like that back then?) Definately worth the effort of finding it.
I was very disappointed to find that I was refused enrty to C.C. Blooms on New Years Eve having traveled from Aberdeen. At first we had thought they were closing or full but then discovered others were being permitted. We could not understand why we were being turned away. The bouncer just kept saying "try up the road guys". After our third attempt we were advised that we could not get in if they did not know us (why didn't they just tell us that in the first place?) Though I don't think that this poilcy will do any good for their business. This seemed a little silly considering Edinburgh is full of tourists at that time of year. None of my group appeared agressive nor drunk and I'm sure we did not fail because of a dress code or being under age (we are all in our 30's). We then spent the rest of the evening between Planet Out and The New Town Bar where we had absolutly no trouble! Not very encouraging for tourists!
