Sheep's Heid Inn (The), Edinburgh

We hired the skittle alley for our team building afternoon, which was fun. All of our party had the basket suppers which were miniscule and over cooked - rubber burgers all round! When trying to feed this back to management (along with some other hic-ups), we were treated with an air of pompous arrogance. NEVER AGAIN.

We booked a family outing to sheep heid. One child of 14 was in this party. We were not told at time of booking nor when we ordered food that we would have to vacate the premises by 9pm. The courses took so long to arrive at the table that when we were told we had to leave we didn't have time for dessert. dessert was desirable since we ate so little of the main course and were still hungry. We were told there was a sign at the door regarding times for children. Yes we found there was. But on the door another door opens into. hardly noticable unless pointed out. The arrogance of the manager was very unprofessional and he really didn't want to hear what was being said. The steak looked like minute steak and could sole a shoe. Fidgets pie pastry undercooked and contents under pastry strangest taste ever! Will find out the real place to complain to after this. Since we got nowhere at sheep's heid. We will never be back. In a city like edinburgh where restaurants and pubs are in abundance the sheep heid should remember they need more than the fact they are an old establishment to survive.

The music was awesome and NOT techno, the chairs were amazing (huge wing back leather chairs) awesome environment, great service and great prices as well...cab was cheap from downtown edinburgh....highly recomend

This has to be the nicest pub in Edinburgh & Ive lived here all my life & been to most of them so know!! The skittle alley is superb fun & great value to hire - a must see!! Good stock behind bar, great wee nooks to sit in & very warm welcoming atmosphere - topped off by being dog friendly! - a must in my book - especially after a nice hike around Arthurs Seat:)

Ask about the bowling alley and check out the sheep's head (heid) on the bar. Have a pint for me.

Found the food not very good value for money, old brown lettuce served with the overpriced burger. Had to ask numerous times for napkins and nobody could find the salt and pepper!! Would not recommend and will not be back!

It was charming, quaint and friendly. History oozed from the brickwork, the food was a little slow but well, well worth the wait and incredibly good value. We had a quick shot of the Skittles before a birthday party arrived and sat in the beer garden and played with Hector, the pub dog. We'll definitely be back the next time we are in Edinburgh. If anybody else reads this and goes along please have a pint of Sheep Heid Ale for us!! :)

We came in to get a bit of a food and a little drink and had the Venison sausages and mash. It was just lovely and the service was very good. I would recommend going here. Paul & Maria

My husband and I spent 3 weeks in Edinburgh and walked at least 4 nights each week over to Sheep Heid for dinner. The food and atmosphere were great, and both the staff and clientele made us feel perfectly at home. If you can't have a great time here, you should just stay at home in front of L&O reruns! We can't wait to return!
