Loon Fung is open until late on Fridays and Saturdays and it doesn't struggle to fill its tables. There's a comprehensive menu which includes a dish to please every taste, including some wonderfully executed traditional Chinese delicacies. Don't hesitate to ask the waiters for advice - this may be necessary given the bewildering choice. Vegetarians will be pleased with the great range of suitable options. If you are drawn to seafood, the Cantonese menu has some fine fish and crustacea to sample. The decor is attractive and unpretentious, lending an informal ambience to the place.

It had been 29 +years since I discovered the Loon Fung (Rugby has its benefits despite the scores normally run up!!) and I took my wife for her first visit Sunday last.
The food lived up to everything I remembered - it may not ever have been the smartest of places but you cant have everything.
Would still recommend it to anyone and everybody and will definately be back.
Between the Loon Fung in Warriston Place and Chop Chop on Morriston Street - what more can one ask!!
Having lived in Howard Place in the 70's The Loon Fung quickly became our "local" We first visited it in 1974, probably not long after it first opened and we were 'hooked' immediately! We loved the Lemon Chicken(the pineapple and cherry garnish and the spicy red sauce just finished the dish off perfectly) the West Lake Special soup as a starter on a cold winters night was a fave not to mention the steamed dumplings with pork..yumm! Emigrating to Australia in 1981 we often longed for the Loon Fung, no matter how many Chinese restaurants we visited in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth none could match our fond memories of what was, for us, the best chinese food we'd ever tasted. We've had many visits back to "Auld Reekie" in the past 25 years and on every trip we make sure we visit our favourite Chinese restaurant. We are never dissapointed. I don't know how they do it but the minute we step through the doors we're transported back in time to the same tastes that we love and sorely miss. Sure, the restaurant itself seems a bit "posher" than it was in the early days when you had to queue and share a table with strangers but the food still tastes and even looks the same! Love it, don't EVER change. See you soon! Elaine
4 of us at the meal - a meal we all enjoyed - the food - good quality, fresh, interesting , the service - polite just right - I asked for the bill and they had added service charge - I found this unacceptable.

This is an informal, busy, unpretentious little bistro. Set menus are available for lunch and dinner. They offer particularly excellent
seafood and also an impressive range of vegetarian dishes.
This is a no nonsense, unpretentious curry house which has served simple food and generous portions for over 50 years
to the Edinburgh public. Take a pew on one of the long benches at one of the cafeteria style ...
This is a cosy and popular restaurant with a loyal local following and a menu offering authentic Cantonese home cooking.
It's definitely one of the best Chinese establishments in this area of Edinburgh and also offers a convenient takeaway ...
