Cosmo, Edinburgh

From my entrance to my exit, I was taken care of with utmost attention. I enjoyed a degustation menu of seven (!!!!!!!) incredible courses with a different wine to suit every dish. The selection of courses and wines was not only new, surprising and - need I say - expertly composed, but also prepared and served with the greatest care for my pace of dining. Sommelier Max is a young master of his art, as knowledgeable as entertaining. His charming wife Anne watches over guests and staff with energy and style, making sure there is not a single cloud in food heaven. I was there. Don't miss it. Go to heaven.

From the moment we went to cosmo we were made feel special, the food was out this world, service at time was a little over attentive but was still first class. Staff where on hand to explain the menu ingredients (if it contained gluten as we have a ceoliac in our company) The chef is obviously enjoying his cooking. We will be back indefinetly.

A 2 hour wait for a starter is not what I would generally call good service, a 4 and a half hour meal in total was also a little long. Although the food was ok (though very small portions and very expensive - especially the wine) the staff did nothing to try to compensate for the delay, they simply ignored us. The lighting is too bright and the atmosphere stuffy. If you want a nice relaxing email in Edinburgh then avoid Cosmo....

I ate at Cosmo for the first time since it has changed from an Italian eaterie to a Stylish Modern Restaurant The service was perfection , the food exciting apparently the chef is this years winner of the Gordon Ramsey scholarship . This restaurant has recenly undergone refurbishment and is now a fine dining modern european restaurant. The wine list is exceptional and the food was wonderful. We are lovers of fine food and this is a restaurant we would strongly recommend to other fellow lovers of good food. Their head chef Alex Thain won the Gordon Ramsay Scholarship last year. There's been loads written in the press about him.

The photos online made it seem like a cute boutique hotel. It was not. My room was very small, very grey and not very clean. The bed was hard as a rock. I spent the first night there then requested a room upgrade (I was willing to pay more). I was told I was already in a Superior room even though I had only reserved a Standard room. I chose to check out of the hotel and move to another instead of spending another minute in that depressing grey room. Also, the advertised wireless internet was only available in the bar/breakfast area and a barren terrace on the 5th floor. I would NOT recommend this hotel.

The new Cosmo style is cosmic. Went there recently and was surprised by the changes. I am always saying there are no good places to eat in Edinburgh, not anymore. Worth every penny, booked in later this month Steve Pederson
