Lune Town, Edinburgh

I gave the service 1/5 only for their ability to carry the food from the kitchen to us, the customers. Other than that, they were rude, made us wait far too long, and just seemed to want to clear our table 10 mins after the food had arrived. Very unpleasant and no smiles for us. Seemed like a place where the regulars were appreciated but unknown customers were shunned because they seemed ! We couldn't figure out why. The only reason could've been that half of our group were 5 to 10 mins late because we couldn't find a car parking space. Is that a bit annoying for them? YES, probably. Does that mean you dish out god awful service to your customers? NO! What a waste of time and money, but we still made sure we had a good evening. I might recommend this place to my worst enemy, perhaps!

My friends and I actually just stumbled on this great little restaurant. I go to Edinburgh a lot for family visits and since finding Lune Town, I make it a "must-go" everytime I'm in town. You should too.

We went here having read the reviews as we had previously been to chinese restaurants in Edinburgh and found them somewhat average. Here we were not disappointed, the food was superb (large portions too!) staff were friendly and the menu was extensive. We can certainly recommend it, we'll definately be going back.

Staying in Glasgow, Edinburgh is always a good day escape. Had a really lovely day in Edinburgh touring around, feeling like I was on a holiday. Being a Chinese, sometimes I do crave for authentic Chinese food. Having read the reviews from this website, Lune seemed to be a good choice since it never had a bad review yet. Sorry I might start this. For a Chinese who enjoys all kinds of food, the food in Lune is just your average local take away, the only difference is you are paying a much higher price. The veg was fried with oyster sauce, which is standard western 'Chinese' cooking. The satay chicken is chicken with sauce from a tin or can. Nothing exciting or particular about the food. But the service is really good, the waitress is very attentive and quick, 10 seconds after we were done, she cleaned the table (my partner has made a mess using the slippering plastic chopsticks). If you are Chinese, please don't go, it will just be a disappointment. But if you are a westerner and used to the 'Chinese' food you are getting, not a bad place for the ususal stuff.

The food was amazing! great tasting and beautifully presented. Stephen, the host, was gracious and charmingly entertaining. A perfect restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh.

We recently went to Edinburgh for a short trip (May 2007) and decided to search online for recommended Chinese restaurants in the centre. Having read the reviews on this site Lune Town seemed a great place to go. What a disappointment! I'm afraid we do have to agree with the other 'bad' reviewer - it was ok but nothing to write home about. We certainly wouldn't go back again and definitely wouldn't recommend it to friends! To be honest if there wasn't a picture of the restaurant above we would have thought we were in the wrong place! I can only assume that maybe there has been a change of ownership or something because it certainly didn't live up to the glowing reviews left on this site.

We dined at Lune Town one evening in late March, 2004. We were newly-arrived visitors in Edinburgh and a police officer at the station on the Royal Mile suggested the restaurant to us. While I cannot precisely recall what we ordered, I do know that the taste and appearance of the food was uniformly excellent. Althought the restaurant was hosting a small private party that evening, we were sereved as if we were the only guests. The owner took time to talk with us, which only made a very happy experience all the better.

"Does what it says on the tin", well cooked varied choice and my kids love it. The chicken in herbs is fantasic as is the spicy squid. Service is very friendly with Rachel and Vivien always smiling and it is very comfortable. House wine is good as well. Reasonably priced overall

I completely disagree with the bad reviewer. I live in Vancouver, Canada which is one of the largest chinese populated cities outside of China -- so its safe to say that you can find some pretty great chinese restaurants here. When i was in Edinburgh on vacation, Lune Town had been suggested to me by a friend. The food was fantastic and better than most places in Vancouver. I was very impressed by the quality of food and service.

This pace is simply the best in Chinese food in Edinburgh. The food is delicious and, unlike so many Chinese restaurants/takeaways, it is freshly prepared with good quality meat and really flavoursome dishes. More expensive than a lot of others in the city but you get what you pay for in the food. So often Chinese food consists of dishes that all taste the same despite apparently being different on the menu and then you;re hungry an hour later. Not so here! Only criticism is that it doesn;t have a delivery service...but, then again, maybe that's a good thing!! Definately worth a visit and caters for large parties as well. I would recommend requesting a table downstairs if you can.
